Head Cover Drama. Who's the Jerk?

I go out and play 9 last night with a couple of friends. One of them brought a guy I had never met. Note: This guys has an all Titleist bag with the new $430 Scotty Phantom, and is decked out in the newest Titleist swag. Like many of you, I move clubs in and out of my bag, and last night I had my Cobra F9 7 wood in the bag. I do that for this particular course. Being somewhat of an OCD individual who likes things consistent, I had a Titleist head cover on the Cobra wood. #1, because I lost the Cobra cover, and #2, because it matches my 4 Wood.

On the 2nd tee box, this guys starts going through my bag and pulls off my head covers. He see's I have a Cobra wood under a Titleist cover and says, "You're a Poser, trying to make people believe you have quality clubs in your bag". Me being me, I respond with, "What did you call me? This poser would be happy to beat your F-ng Word not allowed right here on the tee box".

He then challenged me to play him $10 per hole for the remaining holes, and $50 for low total. I proceed to beat him on 5 of the remaining 8 holes and shoot 38 to his 41. When I asked for my money, he walked away to his Prius Yelling...I'm nothing but a poser and he will never play with me again! And... I didn't get paid!

Am I really a poser for having a Titleist cover on a Cobra wood? Is it really that big of a deal to brand loyalists? Or am I misguided? I've never experienced something like this. On the bright side, I held my temper, which is Big for me, and my friend who brought him apologized repeatedly after our round.

I don't even know where to begin! You are not the jerk. What grown man pulls the covers off someone else's clubs? You probably should have helped him find his wallet in the parking lot!

Also, if you "held your temper after responding with "This poser would be happy to beat your F-ng Word not allowed right here on the tee box" I'd hate to see what you would have done/said if you didn't hold your temper. Just sayin.

Would’ve been cooler if you’d have beaten him with Goodwill specialties.

The winner of the US Open just won with Wilson headcovers on his Ping woods. Granted, he is being paid to do so - but still. I don't see the issue here with headcover and clubhead not matching.

As soon as I said that, my two buddies stepped in and got between us. I'm older an would prefer not to get physical (53), but I'm not someone who takes crap easily. BTW, I'd say this guy was late 30's.

What a moron that guy is. Griping over headcovers?. Sounds like hes a little self councious about having a decked out back and no game to back it up. You're a better man than me. If someone touched my clubs who didnt know me ..1 and 2 said those things to me. He would have to learn real quick.

The guy sounds like a tool, and I'm surprised anyone would start rifling through another person's bag, although I've read of that happening more than once on this website.

dude drives a prius, its obvious who the ****** is. I could care less if someone looks at my head covers or lack of in my case, or my clubs but when its time to pay up after running your mouth you pay up. The guy has zero character or integrity, Im sure we all know a few at clubs we belong to. My buddies brother gets a hole in one and buys drinks for the club, some guy decides to order a Macallan 18 for 35 bucks a pour. It might be the same guy.

Sounds like the clown parade got to the course

Last night my good buddies draw a 4th random dude on men's night. On the 2nd hole my big and generally angry friend fats a 7i into a pond

Get to the green and the new guy chips in for 2 and goes on about how he is amazed he could do this after witnessing the previous shot. (He doesn't know how close he came to a pummeling)

Of course this guy was already on about his long game but then proceeded to go double double triple double after his Helen Keller chip

Your (should have been) response: "LOL dude. I love my Cobra but lost the headcover. No worry." Then smash the hell out of the shot and show him you know how to use the club. Problem defused.

Who decides to just pull headcovers off of a virtual stranger's clubs THEN insult the person? If that actually happened, I'd probably be too flabbergasted to have any sort of response other than "WTF are you doing man?"

Im a bit taken back that 1) A complete stranger took the head covers off your clubs and 2) You allowed this and still played with him.
