Personal best w/o sand wedge. Now what?

I had a really tough round last night: couldn’t get off the tee, 4.5 hours into darkness, barely broke 90. Woke up early this morning and went out again to discover I’d left my trusty 56° wedge on the course last night. Drive out to 17 green at 6:30 am, no wedge. Check the clubhouse, no wedge, leave my name & number. (Fingers crossed there are still some scrupulous people in this world)

So I head out, to a different course, and proceed to have my very best round. Shot 74 on a par 70 with no sand wedge and hitting 3W from every tee. Golf is some crazy game.

The question now is, if they find my wedge, does it go back in the bag?

Just don't hit in any bunkers. Easy solution.

Let's just say this...I've had plenty of rounds wherein one of my wedges didn't get used.

The variable that affects play was the courses and yardages. As a result, one-course certain clubs are used, the next course other clubs are used. It's not one club fits all, but what's needed for the given shot. So, "yes" it should remain in the bag.

I'd say, instead analyze the round and see what you did versus what you did in the prior rounds at that course. And put the wedge back in the bag but also get it get the loft and lie checked. I didn't realize one time but my wedge was 8 degrees flat, it was f*****.

Will do, no problem really. My only trip to the beach today was hanging on the lip, baseball swing standing in the bunker. Chipped to 6 ft w the 52° (and...missed the putt...grumble).

Same, for me that’s usually the 60°. At least we got some good quality time together today, even dropped in a chip for me.

You’re right, today’s course was 500y shorter, smaller elevated greens and a bit more rounded. The rough was also trimmed down, zero bunker shots, no tall fescue. So yeah, I guess no really need for the high bounce 56 today.

Yikes! Must have been run over by a cart?!?

Yeah, the quick analysis is that I hit a lot more greens than usual, 13/18. With the 60°, three GIR, U&D twice, and one chip-in. Strokes gained short game also about the same as my other rounds over the last month. Will dig deeper on specific yardages for sure.

Absolutely take every club out the bag that you didn’t use for that 74. No driver, no SW, no whatever else. There’s a clear cause-effect here that you’d be a fool to deny.

You're best rounds ever don't always emulate the "perfect" round you've thought of in your head. It's possible to do it while hitting a certain club poorly or not even using a club at all....it doesn't mean this will be the case forever. Golf is not that kind of game

At the same course in the same season i had a 72 while hitting 4 greens and a 71 while hitting something like 16 greens. Those were obviously very very different rounds

Depends what you are like with your sand wedge. Well done for the 74.

Sounds like you need to take the driver out of the bag.
