G400 MAX to G410 PLUS .... back to G400 MAX

Soooooo.... I have been on the Callaway driver bus since as long as I can recall. I would try others (LOTS ), and always find a Callaway model that fit the bill best.

Off the top of my head, here's what I've had in that slot recently (400 Max, Rogue SZ, Epic SZ, Big Bertha- black matte?, G30 LST, XR SZ, Big Bertha-navy?)

Anyway- the 400 MAX has been firmly in the slot since late Fall 2018, and I have NEVER had as many good driving rounds.
FFWD last week: Out of no where, My driver swing goes sideways... So how to I attempt o fix it? Order a 410+... ha. Anyways, I get the head and can't wait to do a direct head-to-head test vs. the 400M. What?! a different adapter?! UGH... FFWD: Order an adapter and shaft-up the exact same shaft I have in my 400M for the 410+... By now this is getting pricey.

Shaft it up, and it comes in at like C8. My current 400M plays at D3. FFWD: Order another 410 weight ( I decide on a 12 gram: that'll give be plenty - There's already a 14 gram on it). It arrives, and it comes in at D6 --- Not bad, but a little heavy ---- Grind off some weight from the new 12 gram I ordered --- Making it 8 grams.. and viola it's now D4 and I LIKE it. Also had to loft the 410 up a click foe some reason to get the most out of it (400 10.5, 410 11)

testing doors, test outside

After all that, the verdict is:

  • Pretty Similar numbers - 410 more muted sound than the 400 - 410 I would say more forgiving, but hat could just be the "new toy" factor (concentrating more) -

Soooooooooooooooooo - both great clubs - Wasted time and money, but now I have anew driver

Huh I like that double weight in the 410, maybe I'll tinker a bit with one on mine but I don't want to mess too much, it's grooving right now for me.

I’m sort of happy for you - but reading your post made me cringe a little bit - you spent a lot of money to find out there wasn’t any benefit.
Our site may suffer a meltdown!

Having the adjustable weight can't hurt and the better sound is always good. The 410 is supposed to have really nice face tech too. PM me if you want to let go of the Gmax head (for a reasonable price). I'm a tinkerer too and would like to do a head to head (ha ha) against my regular G400. ;)

I was in the same boat but now back to the 400. Something magically about the 400 max as many staff and non staff players still using the 400. Anyway the 410 is nice but for whatever reason I was driving the best ever with the 400 and had to try all of the new drivers out and now back to the 400 slightly short of some other offerings but when dialed in as long I have found. But the amount of fairways with good distance is incredible.

Actually it seems to be quite the opposite if you look at the PING tour staff webpage. The majority have switched to the 410. I only mention it cos it’s one of the first things I look for when new models are released

I tried the 410 against the regular 400 and found little difference other than sound. Didn't care for the 400max as it was too loud. This was at a Ping fitting at Papago and I hit alot of balls.
Having the best driving rounds of my life right now with the G400/ HZRDUS yellow combo. Long enough and fairway misses are rarely more than a couple yards if it was a decent swing.

I didn’t hit the 410 any better than the Max, so it was an easy decision to do nothing except continue to hit fairways.

The 410 had unfinished look to me that I didn’t like, anyway. I was almost irrationally bothered by the lack of a sliding mechanism and the open holes in the unused positions. It seems years behind the weight systems of other OEM’s.

reading the original post the g400 max is so forgiving so not sure on how the 410 is more forgiving, but to each their own! I hit the 410 and found the max more forgiving, but a tad shorter!

Well.. After concluding their really wasn't a big difference, I decided to shaft-up the 400 with another shaft I had around (not the Veylix), and put it on eBay (sold for $225 quickly), and I will be going with the 410, just because...

I’m sorry but to have no thoughts of changing the driver is nonsense. I’d be really scared if I ever get here. lol. Good for you though. The 400max is a great club. Ping is producing some very nice drivers of late.

G400 max has been the most consistent driver and the longest of anything I’ve had in the bag - that includes M2, Epic Sz, g400 standard, 917, Cobra F8+

It will be staying in the bag for a very long time, I’ve tried it against M5, M6 and flash... it made my appreciate the Max even more!!

Like an idiot, I sold my G400 Max with a HZRDUS Yellow 76 6.0 last winter. Went to the G410 and really liked it initially but other than the muted sound, the G400 Max seemed nearly as long and to me, more forgiving. Sold that G410 and went to look for my old setup...dang near impossible. The prices were outrageous. Tried a few others in the mean time, but the Max was always on my radar to repurchase. Came across a killer deal on another 410 so threw that back in the bag....then FINALLY a great deal on my same Max setup came up on eBay. Unfortunately, I am hitting the 410 great right now so not sure what to do.

Regardless, and I haven't liked a Ping prior to the Max, but that is the unicorn. One of the best drivers ever produced.

I notice that many of the drivers in the first post are low spin compared to the G400 Max. My rental clubs a couple weeks ago in Vegas came with a G400 Max and I was excited to try it based on the glowing reviews like the ones in this thread. It's not for me. I just hit high fly balls all day with it. I've been fit into low spin drivers so I'm not surprised the Max wasn't for me but I'm curious why you tried so many low spin drivers if the Max is your best fit.
