Am I overreacting?

I sold a putter on ebay and when I was boxing up the putter I noticed some minor damage that I was unaware of. I contacted the buyer, refunded his money and gave him an additinal $10 for his trouble. Now weeks later he gives me a "neutral" seller review with the comment, "item recieved as described". At least it wasn't negative but it blemished a spotless record of 275 transactions. I want to confront him and press him to remove the feedback or should I just move on.

I’d call eBay. There was no transaction if he agreed to a refund. Did he agree to a refund? And his feedback is just plain incorrect if you never sent him the item. See what they say. They can look at your eBay PMs.

I sent a cancellation notice with the explanation that I found the damamge. I told him I was refunding his money +$10 to help him find another putter. He accepted the refund and extra $10 without ever contacting me. It was weeks later that he left the feedback.

No one's ever going to notice or care about that one neutral feedback.

But ask eBay to remove it.

I recently had a seller on a club cancel the sale after I'd paid with a "I noticed it was damaged" reason (It's not OP, lol). I left neutral feedback, and a comment with "cancelled sale and processed refund after payment". I felt it was fair given that I wasn't offered an opportunity to see the damage or accept the club anyway. I would never leave negative feedback given the circumstances, but neutral feedback seemed appropriate.

I guess what I'm saying is that the buyer has no way of knowing if you're being honest when you cancel and refund without a conversation, and may not be okay with it.

I got a neutral a while back for failing to deliver a book in time for Christmas as I had promised a seller. When I knew it wasn't going to make the deadline, I refunded him -- while telling him the book was on the way anyway. I thought the neutral was kind of crappy and I had/have 700+ perfect, but it's OK. The rating still shows 100 percent.

I just had a similar situation a few weeks ago. Sold a PXG putter to a guy in Malaysia.

I posted a bunch of pics and a very accurate description but this was a putter that you’d have to pull out a magnifying glass to find any issues. The guy tells me he finds a scratch on the shaft that doesn’t even appear on his pics. I say fine, no prob. I will return your money and pay to have the club shipped back. Buyer says no, and that I scammed him, gave me a negative feedback and actually called me a scammer in the comments.

Screwed up my 100% eBay feedback score (eBay only counts the last 6 months or so and I had very limited transaction volume so my rating dropped to like 80% because of one idiot).

Emailed and called eBay and their response was “sell more stuff to get your rating up!” Did nothing to help me.
