Presidents Cup Picks - Tiger Taking Reed or Spieth

Reed is currently 20th and Spieth is 30th - seems SO strange that neither of these guys will likely qualify. Would Tiger pick one or both or just go with someone else altogether? Reed _probably_ burned some bridges after Paris, but who knows.

I'm a Jordan fan and agree that based on his play he should not be picked. Between the 2, I'd have to go with Reed.

Lots of guys ahead of them on the list. Neither.

Neither one should be on the team.

They both have time to move up the list. If either or both are playing great and just outside qualifying outright you would have to consider them but at 20th and 30th not a chance.

Either pick the top 12 or whoever’s hot. Spieth and Reed will need to win and have some top tens to be considered.

Haven't even played the third, oops, fourth major yet, let alone the sacrosanct Fed Ex Cup - keep pants on.

There's no way Reed is getting onto a Ryder Cup or Prez Cup team without getting on automatically by virtue of ranking.

My guess is if Spieth is showing form, Tiger might choose him. I "think" he's been a good teammate but maybe I'm off with that line of thinking. Will be interesting to see if Lefty gets a pick too. Phil and Tiger both deserved picks into the Ryder cup but they didn't bother showing up. In my opinion this was in part due to exhaustion and fatigue. It'll be interesting if Phil lobbies for a pick.

Reed just had his first top 10 finish on American soil in Detroit this past weekend since the 2018 US Open. His play has not been good. Unless he goes on a hot streak I do not see him as a captains pick from TW for the PC.

When Reed won the Masters, Tiger tweeted out something to the extent of, “Congratulations! If nothing else, you at least have a spot on the Presidents Cup team next year.”

I think both of them will be on the team.

My guesses:

I think Spieth will get picked (whether he should or shouldn't).

I don't think Reed gets picked if he doesn't make it on points (see Bubba a few years ago).

I don't think Phil lobbies for a pick if he doesn't make it on points. Maybe I'm wrong and he still cares about his team event streak. But he seems to know his time is coming to an end. Given the event is so late in the year, I'm not sure if Phil will want to go through the work of getting his game ready (should be prime skiing vacation season for him). Another pick and bad showing wouldn't be good for him, although he probably doesn't care what others think.

I would like to see Spieth and Phil paired in four-ball. They each hit about 50% of the fairways. What are the odds that they could each hit/miss on opposite holes, and then team has 1 ball in the fairway on all 14 par 4s/5s?

Does it really matter? It's the President's Cup we're talking about. He could pick Michelle Wie and they would still win in a rout.

I’d wager they both make it. And I don’t know myself if I’d pick either one. And I also agree Michelle Wie would be good enough to still win. Doesn’t matter at all.

If they’re picked it will be complete bs and hopefully Tiger would catch a lot of flack for it. For multiple reasons, he can’t pick them.

Just leave Phil off the damn team. Make him vice captain

I didn't see that tweet, but if he sent it it was well before the Ryder cup fiasco. Remember "team" Reed publicly complained about not being paired with Spieth as he was paired with Tiger. It's one thing to complain privately, another to do it publicly AFTER getting trounced, and then another level to do it when you're paired with the goat.

I still have a feeling that both will make the team. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if Reed plays himself on the team, he’s trending in the right direction, but even if he doesn’t I don’t think Tiger holds much of a grudge. They are friends aren’t they? And more importantly Patrick’s a good match player. Another, perhaps more sensitive captain might not choose him as a captains pick, but I think Tiger will. Jordan needs to figure something out though, I have more doubts about him on the team.

We’ll see.. :-)

I think it would funny if he called Tom Watson and had him ask Speith and Reed to bow out of consideration gracefully.

This is an even worse idea than the Presidents Cup. Almost as bad an idea as:

When Phil is captain, they’ll wear the Mizzen and Main version of these.

Think Tiger will make the team on points, becoming a player/captain?
