DeChambeau: entitled baby?

I'm not one to be very public in any negative thoughts I have about pro golfers, but DeChambeau's behavior this weekend at the 3M was petulant and child-like, and unfortunately it's not the first time I've seen it from this media-declared "golf genius". He acts as if he has a RIGHT to every good break and should be immune from his "science" not working precisely as he thinks it's supposed to....just a very bad look to see him giving disgusted talks to holes/pins and muttering to himself like he's Mr. Large and In-Charge!

He supplanted Spieth this weekend in my mind as pro golf's whiniest horse's rear-end. His walkaway when Wolff drained the winning putt, on camera, was highly petulant....contrast that to Phil's grace when Stewart drained a 20 footer to beat him in a US Open.

I love the way people judge people they don't know.

Unless you know someone first hand, have person to person contact and interactions with this person, truth is you don't have the right to judge anyone in the first place.

He's not my favorite golfer but the guy works his a** off and is trying to be the best he can be and what he does. Are you?

I like bryson. I think he is a strange dude and plays slow. I think he is intense and everyone loved that about tiger. Bryson just does it so different that it rubs many wrong. I don't like bad behavior but I have not really every seen whatnot would call bad golf behavior. The camera was on him at the ed of the round as Wolff drained that monster putt. All he said was "he made it? Shoot". "Guess we are done". Then started shaking hands. That was pretty pleasing and respectful in my eyes.

I'm not really a fan, but agree with this comment.

When I saw the footage my first thought also was he was being a ******, but when you heard the audio, agree it was a fairly mild and classy response.

His 'job' isn't to act and conduct himself how you see fit. Perhaps you'd like it if he acted more like Stricker or Luke Donald and that's totally understandable as they're both easy to root for. But I really like it when we get someone not so cookie cutter a la Bubba, Sergio, and now Bryson. Their honesty isn't always the best look for them but it's refreshing.

Not that we or they should care too much. They're just working after all.

I'm amazed that many people continue to believe Phil's reactions are always 100% genuine.

I'm not a DeChambeau fan but I don't see any problem with his reaction.

What on earth are you talking about? It sure looks like he embraced Wolff on his win

I’m not a fan but watching him interact on the course with the cameraman the other day and running around the fairway and a few interactions I’ve seen with fans I don’t agree. I’m sure there’s a lot of golfers at all levels who yell at the hole, the break, the course conditions, etc when something doesn’t go right

He seems to go from one extreme to the other. At moments, he seems like a nice guy at others, a complete **** (pick your own four letter word as appropriate).

I'm not a huge fan of him but do I think that he makes professional golf more entertaining? Yes I do.

The general consensus these days is that there are no characters in the game anymore. They are all to perfect and focused on not doing anything to upset sponsors that it is rare for someone to come along that does anything out of the ordinary. When one does, we end up with threads like this.

Something I’m confused about: several people have argued that the OP isn’t qualified to judge/criticize based on TV coverage. By that logic, are people not qualified to be fans of golfers based solely off tv coverage? I mean for the vast majority of the golfing public TV is the only interaction they have with players and thus the only means they have of deciding which players they like and which they do not.

My big complaint with BAD is his pace of play. No matter how he tries to talk around the issue or explain it away he's a slow player. Period. As far as yesterday - it takes a pretty good player to know he needs eagle at the last to have a shot to win or playoff and he did it. His eagle there was the 6th of the day according to CBS so while they were doable they were still the exception. Bryson had every right to expect to be in nothing worse than a playoff. So mentally he was still preparing for a playoff when informed that Wolff had made the eagle to win. I don't have an issue with his reaction.
