My TS4 demo

MTM

Recommended Posts

My golf shop FINALLY got a TS4 demo in.

I took my TS3 down and hit both with my preferred shaft (GD BB 6) and ProV1 balls.

I created an Excel spreadsheet but I cannot figure out how to imbed it here so I'll just say this-

Ball speed and launch angle was about the same.

On average the TS4 was 400 RPM less backspin and 5 yards longer on carry and total distance.

The TS4 was straighter for me too.

My worst left and my worst right with the TS3 were about 75 yards apart. (a big pull hook 43 yards left of center and a big push fade 33 yards right).

My worst misses with the TS4 were less than half that-a 27 yard draw left and a 12 yard fade right.

The accuracy may be enough to tempt me but I'm not sure I would feel confident enough on the course. They look very small at address by comparison.

So, ordered a 9.5* with the HZRDUS Yellow!

Agreed. I was surprised by how low I was launching both clubs although the rubber tees they had were a little shorter than what I would typcially play.

I am generally a fairly good driver of the ball though at 53 years old my swing speed isn't what it used to be.

The absense of a wild miss with the TS4 made it intriguing. My first swing produced only 134 MPH ball speed but 251 total distance and even though it was off line 23 yards it would be playable at most courses I play.

How is the difference in feel on off centre hits? I have a 915 D4 and it is definitely harsher when you miss slightly vs the 915/917 D3. That being said, it still seems to keep the ball in play relatively well. I am a bit surprised bit I havent seen any changes in fairways hit or penalty strokes off the tee with either head even though I think it should be worse with the D4.

I am a Titleist honk and have played every driver since the 983s.

I had a 915D4 and hammered it at times and got penalized at times.

But I think the TS series is the best driver they've made in a long time. I have the TS2 and the TS3. I've been playing the TS3 most of the season and would happily play it for a long time. But.......I am intrigued by the TS4 and will likely trade my TS2 for it.

I think the TS4 is better than the 915D4 but probalby no more so than the TS3 is better then the 915D3. I just think the TS line is really good.

When I hit that one today that yeilded 134 MPH ball speed I knew it was a poor strike. But I was surprised at the result. I'm not sure my 915D4 would have been as forgiving.

Yeah, I've always like the Titleist drivers back to the 975D. I still have a 983E that I will play a few times a year for fun (this along with some Ping wedges, mainly various Eye2s, are the only clubs I've kept that aren't played regularly), but this club is way too punishing when you miss it.

Are you playing the same loft in all of the TS2, TS3, and TS4? Generically, I agree with the idea that I "should" be playing the more forgiving head. However, one thing I like about the lower spin ones is that I tend to be able to use a higher lofted head, which I am more comfortable looking down at.

I was fit for the TS2 and they put me in an 8.5*.

The TS3 was in the used bin and I bought it on a whim. 9.5*.

The only TS4 demo they have is a 9.5*. I should probably go back and try it at a D4 or A4 setting.

Sounds like your dealing with Uinta. If the 600 East 2100 South store don't trust any of the numbers unless using the new machine in the back (west) area. I am from the SLC area and you are welcome to try my driver (in signature) if you would like. I think the numbers off the 410 would surprise you.

I am about your age (54) good player and hit a little longer than you (average 285 here in Utah).

Yep. Kev put me in the back room.

Thanks but I am too much of a Titleist fanboy. I have tried lots of stuff over the years but Nugent just shakes his head if it's not Titleist because he knows I'll just 90-day it.

Thanks for that review. I am also a Titleist player. Currently waiting on a TS4 that I ordered with the stock Even Flow T1100 stiff and with your review, gives me confidence that I made the right decision.. had to sell the 917 D3 though..

I might be even more flummoxed now.

The golf shop let me take the demo out of the store. I played it at my home course in my weekly league.

The first three holes I hit very average drives. Nothing over 260 and missed all three fairways although I had a clear look at the pin on every hole because nothing was off the fairway by more than a few yards.

After that it was mix of decent to really good drives.

The last three holes I hit it in places I have not been since I was a young man.

But....It never really felt good off the face. And i felt like I had to put a really good swing on it to get results. Kind of like playing a blade vs. my AP2.

It fits my swing better than my TS2 so I'll keep the TS3 and add the TS4 in the coming days.
