Swingweight help

I’ve got a TM Original One Mini Driver, and I’ve just bought a new, shorter shaft.

It’s a Tensei CK 65 Blue, and 5-Wood length, so takes 1.25” off the total.

To my mind that’s 7.5 SW points, minus 1 for a 10g heavier shaft than the Diamana 55 it came with.

Lead tape obviously is available. What other options do I have as there’s no adjustable weight on the head, it’s quite a heavy head anyway. Clearly I’m going to try it as is and I’ll go from there, but hive mind, what are my options?

Dont reset the original value unless you know thats the one that work for that club, and you still dont, so Hotmelt who is perfect for this aint no good idea until you know how much that should be added.

Try with lead tape and play around with that until you have found what works the best for you, then rip off that lead tape and put it on a gram scale. If that happens to be full reset of original SW it takes 13.3 grams at 42.00", (7.5 SWP x 1.77 grams) but maybe 9 grams is enough, and then you can pull the shaft from the connector and add a 9 gram tip weight of tungsten for graphite shafts.

Hotmelt should be considered as permanent, so if you add to much, its not funny...(its a h.....of a job to remove, so we better know what we do when we add it)

DO NOT SEND PMs WITH CLUB TECH QUESTIONS - USE THE PUBLIC FORUM.

Couldn’t agree more, hence my question. I very much doubt I’ll ever be using hotmelt.

i'd just start adding lead tape.

I've done this many times and find that I only need a fraction of the weight that would be required to restore the SW.

Just add 2-3g strips of lead tape and swing the club, until you can start to feel the head in the swing.

Yes, my SW will go down to C7 or something like that. Don’t need a balance, can do that online and with a pair of scales and tape measure.

Yes - shorter does decrease the swing weight but heavier shaft would increase the SW if the balance points of the shafts were the same - which is rarely the case so it's hard to predict exactly what a change in shaft weight will really do to the SW.

But lighter swing weight doesn't always mean faster swing speeds or necessarily better accuracy. Everyone has an "ideal" swing weight (for a given length and shaft weight) that will give the best accuracy/consistency. Going either heavier or lighter than that 'ideal' can potentially cause problems.

Maintaining SW doesn't necessarily mean maintaining the same number.

Increasing headweight some amount is typically all that is needed to get a good feel back to the club.

Others have said it more eloquently than me, but making SW equal is not necessary and often times will make the club VERY head heavy.

Testing with increasing the headweight is important (critical), and one doesn't typically realize the benefit until one tries it (many, and me too, say that the shorter club with no added weight to the head feels fine).

But when one starts adding headweight to a shortened club for the first time, there is typically an "ah-ha" moment.

At least, that has been my experience.

I honestly wish they would take the swingweight scale and trash it...I used to have clubs my friends would pick up and say

Geez are these E1...no they are D0. But felt perfect. If the head feels light add weight...if the shaft feels light add weight...if the grip feels light add weight. Just get it to feel right...use the scale as a barometer but there is nothing wrong with having slightly differing swingweights through the set. You may change that mini and never add a thing and it feels perfect. You may have to. But just get it to feel right.
