PayPal fee situation

ryzies

Recommended Posts

Want to explain a scenario and have thoughts. I sold a set of clubs for 450 plus shipping. I was asked what shipping costs were and I was driving so I said “tell you what, make it 460 and we’re good”. I shipped the clubs assuming I was paid the correct amount to find out he shorted me the paypal fee. I sent a message explaining that shipping was 41 dollars and that all I was asking for was to be paid the 460 we agreed. He says he paid me 460 it’s not his fault I didn’t take the fee into account. Two questions: am I out of line asking for the difference despite already shipping and when I was met with the response am I wrong to think I should be allowed to provide feedback about the sale?

Wow your story is a little off. I will post our entire conversation and then you all can decide.

First you asked for $460 and that’s what I paid. I even asked you to make sure that you received payment and you said “yep it’s all good”. Then 2 days later you sent me a message asking for another $16 sent via friends and family because PayPal charged you a fee. It’s not my fault you did not take that into consideration. Then you would not and still have not provided me with tracking.

We have resolved the tracking because you finally gave me a reason for no tracking and for now that’s fine unless I don’t receive the clubs that I paid for on the 12th.

The only reason this has become a bigger thing is because you won’t understand that friends and family payment is wrong and asking for more money later is wrong. And now you have threatened to leave negative feedback until a mod told you not to which would have been a lie anyways. Don’t tell me I refused to pay you. I refused to pay you extra days after the deal was done when you don’t understand that I paid the agreed upon amount. Your account doesn’t reflect it because PayPal took their cut. You have been nothing but rude since I refused to pay. Calling me a child even and telling me how old you are. Spoiler alert... we are the same age.

I have our whole conversation for anyone to read and will post it all here if you like. Please give me a reason to.

Mattbk104 is correct here. You asked for $460. You should have asked for a higher amount if you wanted to cover the PayPal fee beforehand. Friends and family is a huge risk and unless you are literally doing what it says “friends and family” you shouldn’t do it. There will always be a PayPal fee for sales. That’s how they make money.

+1 Op should have took in account the Pp fees when quoting price

Seller is totally out of line and in the wrong on this one. I thought that after I read the first post before the buyer chimed in

1) Yes you are out of line for thinking you are entitled to the fees and asking for them after the fact.

2) Yes you are out of line if you think this warrants negative feedbag. You are more than welcome to leave positive feedback for a buyer who paid you your asking price.

Shipping and paypal fees are part of doing business, build them into your cost next time.

Wow. Are you even for real OP? You asked for $460 and you got $460. Then you ask for more? Then make threats?

You’re so far out of line it’s unbelievable. For you to still think he owes you the PayPal fee - I’m truly dumbfounded. And if you whiffed on shipping - tough bleep - that’s on you too.

So in summary yes, you’re wrong. On every level about everything.

Lol at the seller. If you wanted your fees, your ad should have stated price plus shipping plus fees. You agreed on $460 shipped and buyer sent payment. Trying to tell the buyer to cover the fee due to your ignorance is wrong, and especially to send it friends & family.

Regarding friends and family Mr. buyer (mattbk104), was the request to send the initial payment f&f rather than goods and services?

Seller should have listened to icecat88, starting this thread was pretty dumb but hopefully seller got his question answered lol.

I thought the original post was a joke at first. OP can't possibly think he's right, can he?

This is a good reason for a hard minimum post count that can't be bypassed. Maybe if the OP would spend some time on the forums he'd know how the BST works. Because he seems to be unaware of the most entry-level details.

No the original request was fine but he asked for an additional $16 via friends and family to make up for his lost $16 that was taken away by PayPal. So essentially it would have been me paying $476 in total. Then told me that he has never had anyone in all of his selling transactions to not do that for him. He said “ I have done many transactions and you are the first to stick me with that fee and not send friends and family. Enjoy them whatever”

Yea. I’m sure all kinds of people routinely fork over more money after paying the agreed upon price. Sounds legit.

This thread keeps getting better and better. Any more good nuggets?

Sorry bruv, you’re completely SOL and out of line. The fees incurred are there for A: the convenience of using PayPal’s system, and B: there to protect you Incase the buyer has any problems. Never in my entire time buying and selling clubs online, through this site or through eBay (going on 9 years), have I ever seen or heard of someone tacking on PayPal feels AFTER the fact to cover that cost.

If you wanted $460 after all was said and done, you should have asked for $476. But doing what you did probably just earned you a spot on a lot of members “DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH” list. Hope the $16 hassle was worth it.
