Best 52* wedge

To be used for the odd full shot, but in the main as my pitching club from 80y-30y in.

Looking for high spin, good balance and preferably a wide, forgiving sole without too much bounce. Think a flat sole rather than a V-sole.

This club will not be used for flops so doesn’t need to be openable. It may be used in a bunker but not the main club I’d use for that either.

Which one would you recommend?

You're unlikely to find a consensus so I'll just throw in the one I currently love - Nike Engage square sole. I hit it for everything over 30 yards and bunker shots that don't need a load of height. It's never let me down.

Well, I’ve just purchased a Mack Daddy 4 54* W-Grind, I may get it bent to 53* but will play it first and then decide.

RTX4 52 mid/10 use it as you described. It's my go to from 100m in. full shots, half shots, cut shots with face 1/4 open etc, lots of spin cannot fault it.

I picked up a Taylormade MG 52° a while back and absolutely love it. Sole isn't THAT wide but the grind and bounce combo put on them along with the milling make it easy to hit from a lot of situations ... it's just a confident looking wedge. Wound up adding a 58° as well.

Another vote here for 52’ Nike Engage Square sole
Picked one up for £30 and it’s awesome (so much in fact I found another as a backup) - managed to get a 4 wedge set for £120
Rusts nicely but a very light rub with scouring pad brings it back to looking new!
I’ve played Vokeys for years but found them easy to hit fat but this Nike doesn’t do that!
Tempted by the RTX4 but I’ve got 4 wedges for the price of one RTac4

Ok, so just had a message saying the Mack Daddy 4 W isn’t in stock and Callaway have no more in chrome either, so I’ve enquired about putting the money I’ve paid towards an MD5 Jaws. Let’s see what they say.

Same... Possibly my favorite and most consistent club in the bag lately... Use it for anything inside 110yards... So predictable and tough to mishit it.

    Callaway Mack daddy forged

Best feel, bounce angle that keeps the face forward, which is great for full shots and flighting short wedges

Edit: shoot you said flat sole... VOKEY SM6/7

F Grind Vokey is a great choice here. You can order it with high bounce or low. Love my 50.08F for full swings as well has approach shots where I have some green to work with.

Same here, but I have the 52/12. It actually spins a little more than I'd like on full shots, but it is one of the best looking wedges I have ever looked down at.

This is a very interesting question. I’m pretty sure it depends on how much you use it for full shots vs. shots around the green. Some gap wedges are better for full shots and some for touch shots.

The Mizuno T5 Wedges have been great for me. Pleasant teardrop shape with great feel. I have found them to be easy to control both distance and ball flight with, just what I want out of a 52 degree wedge. They have been a great part of lowering my handicap since wedge shots 90-125 yards have become a strength of my game.

They are a couple of seasons old and I'll definitely look into the new Mizuno T20 wedges now when Im about to upgrade.

Not really for either of those, although clearly the odd shot here and there will be unavoidable.

The main purpose of this wedge will be pitches and long chips, pretty much every shot in between 80y and 30y from the green. Bought a #54 RTX4.

I am considering getting a 50 or 52 to bend to 51 to use as my 12-Iron though for the winter. No room in the bag for summer unfortunately, so I may just get a new Mack Daddy 5 W Grind for this when released.
