Ball suggestion: Qstar or E12soft perhaps?

looking for a ball selection. sorry i did not go through every other comparison thread. been playing softer compression balls such as qstar and maxfli softfli. driver ss mabye up to 100. prob too much spin due to swing, but irons have no problem stopping. bought some srixon zstar xv but not thinking it is too high compression and distance will fall off. haven't hit them yet as i may just take back and trade for something else. any suggestions? like ereryone else, i'd like more yards! would the bridgestone e12 soft or qstar tour be a good fit, and which of these two would you suggest if not something else? thanks for any help. sorry for rambling.

Based on a test done by another website, you will give up yards off the tee with a softer compression golf ball, not gain.

Based on my personal experience, the difference in distance between modern mainstream golf balls is negligible. Your swing variances will be wider than the difference between the longest ball and the shortest.

Generally the guidance from top teachers and the manufacturers is to choose your ball starting at green side performance and working back to the tee.

With that said, I did review of the qstar tour on here last summer. It performed pretty well but I struggled with the feel of the ball off the putter. It was like putting with a marshmallow for me and I felt like it effected my distance control.

I have been playing zstar xv all summer, even took advantage of their bogo sale and stocked up. My swing speed is a few mph faster than yours and for me the xv is the perfect ball. I’m happy with how it performs on and around the green, from the fairway, and from the tee. It’s quite durable as well which I think separates it from a prov.

I don't think there will be any fall off in distance due to the compression being too high (from a premium ball). I don't like the ProV1 or TP5 because I think they feel hard but I don't think this impacts distance by itself. There are a lot of LPGA players playing ProV1 or ProV1x and most of them are swinging below 100 mph.

The comment on strike varying more than ball difference is also likely true. There have also been some arguments that the softer balls can launch higher and spin a tad less, which depending on the player can help the overall distance off the tee. I think some of the lower spinning balls can go a bit farther off the irons but off the driver I think everything is pretty close.

Lastly, the side-spin off the tee is unlikely to be that different either. Maybe 500 rpms. Technically, it probably makes things slightly "worse" over time, but the difference would be nearly impossible to detect on any one swing.

Testing a few different balls is fine, but after that I think it is best to pick one or maybe two that you like and play them the vast vast majority of the time. I think it is nearly impossible to find something that works the best in all conditions (balls and clubs). Most important is to know how the ball is going to react (flight trajectory, spin around the greens) and just play the shot given that. Too many people play musical chairs with equipment (clubs and balls) based on a handful of shots that didn't work out the last couple of rounds out. Most likely, the source of the problem was operator error.
