Tourstriker Planemate

Recommended Posts

I received mine last week and so far I really feel like this one is a unique game changer for those that struggle with syncing up w a correct pivot, shallowing the club, correcting arm overrun for starters. Using resistance bands is a really cool way to ingrain the correct feels over time. Curious what others have experienced so far.

I was lucky enough to get in on the presale, before the price went up considerably.

I feel that it is a great addition to a players training toolbox. I'd be interested in combining it with Monte's impact training aid. Those two together, would seemingly give you feedback on having a great swing and a great impact position.

Caved in and preordered one for the release batch.

I've been quite intrigued by this aid. A buddy of mine (that has every aid I've ever heard of) got it on the cheaper pre-order and says it is great.

It's a phenomenal training aid, as someone that has a bad habit of getting steep this aid puts you in the right spot and helps you develop feels for the correct position. From my experience it's wild just how much I need to exaggerate the shallowing and turning to get it right, thankfully that's the point of a good aid.

Wow that thing looks pretty awesome, unfortunately it comes with a not so awesome price tag right now.

> This looks relatively easy to replicate though? Find an elastic tubing and tie it to your club and a belt loop on the side of your pants. I would assume it would have the same effect. You could estimate length based off some of the instructional video.

The problem with attaching to belt loop is the planemate has a rail on the belt and the clip attaches to that and moves across the rail as the club moves

There is not much to see that is not in the videos he posted. I like the full backswing exercise with the green and the red bands which really forces and exaggerates that proper shallowing motion in transition and downswing. Basically it feels like someone yanks your club down behind you when you get to the top of your backswing. It also yanks your face wide open, which is a challenge for me, but I just ignore that part during the reps since I don’t hit balls with it, just do the reps to feel the motion.

I was thinking the same thing! I’d love to learn to hit a proper draw with my driver and if people are seeing positive results and instructors like Monte or Dan agree with the methods I’m in like Flynn.

Martin Chuck has an awesome swing. It would be nice to see real world experiences of wrxers of various handicaps.

Edit: just saw the Instagram page with the various swings from users.

Preordered mine last week. Will let you know when I get it.

Also, across the line at the top doesn’t really matter, but this will help you shallow. Look at Matthew Wolff. He’s very across the line, but because he rotates, he gets extremely shallow, or should I say Gucci. Lol

I've struggled with getting steep on the downswing for years now and as a result have basically ditched my driver. I've probably watched every video on YouTube on correcting this problem, tried every drill, and just cannot fix it (and yes, I'm aware that it's not just a downswing flaw but an unholy result of problems in the takeaway, body rotation, synching, etc.). I've grown to just live with it adjust accordingly.

But if I can spend $160 for a thingy that at least gets me to FEEL the right movements... well, my birthday IS coming up...

I hate to say this because I really like Martin and I do own other Tour Striker products but the ridiculously high price motivated me to try to replicate it (and I'm a guy who paid $40 for a small inflatable ball). I very easily made a working version with an exercise band with handles. It absolutely replicated the feel of what the planemate is trying to accomplish. Personally, I don't think it is something that will stick or be useful for a bunch or reps. Only for a beginner with a truly messed up concept of the golf swing and needs an "aha" to stop sucking it inside. Do a ton of 1/2 swings with straight arms would be more effective and would stick IMO.

There’s tour pros using it so it’s not really a beginner thing imo

Could not disagree more. I’m an 8 index and a practice grinder. I’ve tried more training devices than I’d care to admit on top of 100+ hours of instruction over last 10 years. This thing has potential to be one of best training devices of all time imo. To each their own, but beyond shallowing this helped me with width, pivot and syncing better than any lesson or drill ever has. The best part is when I practice w it before I golf, the feel sticks w me throughout the round. Does it make me a shallowing scratch player overnight , of course not. But I spent most of the season fighting my usual steep/stuck/shut and the PM got me playing some better golf v quickly and for that I am a) thankful and b) give my highest recommendation. I also have no idea how you could properly recreate this on your own.

OK I suppose to each their own. Perhaps this is really effective to people with a fault pattern different from mine. I get the resistance to sucking it inside. I think this is really good but the "relax to shallow" piece seems kind of bad because it is an excessive pull when relaxed causing a wide open club face - which oddly can cause you to resist the relax to keep it square. I would think that transferring to your swing you will then be tending to opposite to the resistance motion and un-shallow?

The reason I made mine is I have been trying to teach my daughter not to suck the club inside on the takeaway. I made it for her, put it on, and she had a eureka moment with a couple of 1/2 swings and said "oh- this is weird- never felt this before". Then took it off and she worked on that feel. I did NOT incorporate the shallow move. As for making it - I have to say I noodled on it awhile and did not think it was easy to re-create. Then inspiration struck, and I had one done in 5 minutes.

After watching a few videos, I also came to the conclusion that I could probably get 9/10 of the way there by just tying a resistance band to my belt and to the balance point of my club. Since I already have a bunch of bands laying around, I guess the only question would be the length of the band, but a little trial and error should save me $170 or whatever this thing would cost with tax.

I, too, paid $40 for a beach ball on a lanyard, so I'm not averse to spending money on what I perceive to be a quality product.

You don't tie it to your belt. That makes a fixed point. Take a resistance band with handles, cut one handle off, attach to club at balance point (I had a screw-on thingy from another useless aid). Then put band around your waist and slip the club w/attached band through the handle (clubhead first) to make a "belt". The band will have elasticity and thus be able to move side to side slightly like it does on the product. Gives you a chance to see if you would want the real thing if you love it or do straight arm swings for free.
