Simple question - What’s the difference between the two drivers?

Max has higher MOI and more rearward and lower CG. I've got both and like them but have to give the Max the nod overall. Great clubs.

So the Max gets in the air better?

That probbaly depends more on your swing
I found the max to be very draw bias. The lst is more fade bias. The regular 400 is in the middle somewhere.

So if the Max is more draw biased ... I’m coming from a G 9* turned up a 1*. Would I thus look for a 10.5* Max and keep it neutral?

Based on the m-g-s measurements the Max is actually fade biased.

So I’d go with the 9* and turn it to “+”?

Yes. And my experiences bear this out.

I agree, and if I remember correctly it is one of the most fade biased.

To the OP. I have had both and currently use the Max. Biggest difference for me is that as good as the regular G400 is, the Max maintained ball speeds much better across the entire face and is a little lower spinning.

I found the G400 better than the Max overall, and has a better sound . I'm off 12 and a friend off scratch also plays both, but gives the edge to the regular G400 as well.

Pardon my ignorance, but if the Max is more forgiving what makes it fade biased?

I found the G400 and 400 LST to be better for me and they sounded better.
The Max sounded like everything I've disliked about Ping drivers in the past. It also spun more with my swing.
I went with the regular G400 w/ HZRDUS Yellow. Best driving in a long time. I'll buy a LST head eventually to try out.
That said, I've got a couple of playing partners who bomb the Max for old guys......

Not sure if fade biased is the best description but the CG is a little out towards the toe side of the face which reduces the tendency of the head to rotate closed through impact.

EDIT: google "driver cg chart" and look from the article from my go!f $py about MOI and CG placement of drivers.

So for someone with a fade tendency, you’d recommend the normal G400?

G400 SFT is to promote a draw

Based off this chart, https://****.com/2018-driver-cg-report/ , the 400 SFT is similar to the 2016 G ... right?

I have the regular G400 and actually find it a little fade biased....even in the + setting.
Not uncontrollable, just more of a left to right ball flight.

I have the G400 max with Kurokage shaft 9 deg turned to 8.4 and it’s been the best driver in my bag. It goes straight 90% of the time with the main deviation being a very small draw. I’ve also had the G400 with the Alta shaft and between the two I’d pick the max every time. Larger footprint by the ball, consistent ball speed off miss hits and no noticeable difference in spin numbers compared with standard.

For reference I’ve had an epic sub zero which I could hook at times. I’ve had an M2 with hzrdus black and I alway got a fade with. This has been the most consistent flight for me.

Granted, my fade is due to my swing. I’m just now trying to work on my driver and an in-to-out swing. When I do, I’m fine. My irons don’t give me trouble - I’m just fine with those.

Since you already have a G I'd stand pat. The Max is nice but it's just an incremental change.

Well I don’t really have the G anymore. I was playing with my dad the other day. He didn’t have his normal driver, so I let him borrow the G. He wanted to buy it from me by the end of the round.
