For the first time in 25 years, The Senior Open Presented by Rolex will return to the famed Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club.

Former Open winners Darren Clarke and Paul Lawrie make their Senior Open debuts. This is Tom Watson's 18th Senior Open appearance.

Gary Nicklaus and Brandel Chamblee among others came through qualifying yesterday (Monday) to make the field.

This is the only senior event I watch :-)

The Senior Open is great as it manages to visit some less travelled links courses in the UK due to the smaller number of spectators - I will be watching for sure!

Lytham should be in awesome condition and hopefully a little fiery. I would love Paul Lawrie to win, he gives so much back to the game.

Good point, really enjoyed watching them play Royal Porthcawl (2014,2017) and of course Royal Portrush and Royal County Down back in the mid/late90 s to early 2000s. Royal Aberdeen too.

Can't find anywhere as to why Stricker isn't playing, is he ok?

Weak purse? - pretty much the same as every week on the Champions tour $2m, and they pay you a few thousand if you miss the cut here.. I know of 2 who traveled from Australia who weren't exempt so tried to qualify and just missed - would have cost them $10k each at least.

Fair enough, I guess the 2 players in particular that I spoke to and expressed the same view were just making it up, and the player, who I heard ten minutes ago say the same thing to a person who asked why he didn't go was making it up also.

That too but he's been so successful that I doubt travel expenses are ever an issue for him.

Scoring looks tough, currently only 5 players are under par.

No Scott McCarron either so top 2 in Schwab Cup have skipped this event. Entirely their prerogative of course.

Stricker usually has a family vacation planned around this time of year, as its his wedding anniversary. I think he's going to play the Wyndham next week on the big tour.

The course looks spectacular.

I had to look up Wes Short Jr. I had completely forgotten about him.

Hurray for 69 year old Tom Watson making the cut. He never had any success on this course in his prime.

Went yesterday, only live 20 miles away and I use to live and work in blackpool....added to that my mates dad lives in st Anne's so we parked on his flat. Had a great day, got the weather and for £13.50 i couldn't fault it. It's my favourite course on the open track, there's a lovely feeling about st Anne's that I just really like. the course looked stunning and those opening hooked are scary when the wind is in your face......be minging today as it's pouring down!! Glad to watch some of my favourite players from yester year and not they can sti l hit it especially langer! Great day

Sad to hear this will be Tom Watson's last senior major. A true great and a wonderful ambassador for the game.
