Full Time Golf Training in California?

Has anyone in California ever tried or heard of such a thing? Some kind of an immersion program, or an extended workshop of sorts.... Maybe even a university of golf? I have a rather forgiving work schedule, and I would really like to get to work on my game in some kind of accelerated learning program with a teacher.

If there is no such thing, someone should really look into opening one. There could be a fortune to be made there.

Yes, most teachers offer a academy in the so cal LA area.. 2 swing lessons a week and field lesson once a week for $4000 a year or something like that.

I took a 8 lesson series and increased my speed by a lot.

This is a really interesting idea, I'll have to look around for someone offering it. > @TIM929 said:

I don't have any experience with them. Have heard good things through the grapevine but don't know anyone directly working with them.

Originally heard of them from an Erik Anders Lang podcast with Blake Mycoskie and Mac Todd. Blake is the founder of Toms Shoes and Mac is the founder of UGP. One of the better podcasts that Lang has done IMO.

There is also some sort of golf program at National University. I don't think it's as geared toward playing as how to run a golf course. We would play against their club team from time to time in tournaments. They'd usually win. LOL

Like Tim was saying, if you hunt around you can find "academies" at golf courses and ranges. Not sure where you're located, but I think these sorts of things are becoming more popular in CA.

A buddy of mine's wife got him like $1500 worth of UGP lessons for his 40th birthday. He hasn't been playing very long at all (I think he played some when he was younger) but I have to say I'm quite impressed with how he went from practically a beginner to a competent player pretty quickly.

I just heard back from them, and it sounds like they run a pretty intensive program. The only bummer is that $1,500 is going to go fast at this place...> @aenemated said:

How'd you like it?

Well, the place is super nice, and they have a lot going for them, but the first session was $180, and most of it was spent talking and having the coach check me out for physical limitations. By the time we got down to hitting balls, there wan't much time left. At that time, the coach pitched his rates and services. The smallest package they offered was like 9 lessons, and they all had to be paid for in advance. It was just more than I cared to spend, and I went home somewhat disappointed.

Now, if money was no object, I might have signed up because I did like the place, and they coach seemed knowledgeable. For now though, I think I might have to look elsewhere.

Where did you find information on this or who do you know that offers this?
