Phil needs to quit playing the PGA Tour full-time next year

Phil only has one top 30 finish since winning at Pebble in February and has only finished 5 tournaments under par this year. Phil should either retire or only play () tournaments a year: Desert Classic, At&T, The Masters, The PGA, The Open, and a few events in the fall. I think next year Phil should just focus on the Champions Tour where courses are only about 7000 Yards and he can bomb the driver all day or he should just retire. Let's face it, Phil kind of sucks now.

Won't happen. He will continue playing the PGA tour as long as he can. He might play a U.S. Senior Open or another senior major, but that's about it.

You're right. These threads did start earlier than usual. It's an even longer wait until April now.

run of the mill driver with stock shaft
a couple of outdated hybrids
shovel-ier shovels
wedges from same shovel company
some putter with a dead insert and
a hideous grip

Imo Phil isn't ready for the senior tour, if he ever will be. I have said all along however that he needs to play less on tour, maybe a lot less. His pattern is to start out strong (including this year) and then his performances have tended to get worse as the season progresses. I'd like to see him cut his schedule way back right after the Masters..play the majors and a few other tournaments and forget about anything after the last major, at least until the fedex playoffs. Take more extended time away from the tour. I hope he stays with the young guys, just adjusts even more than he already has. He proved this year he is still capable of competing...and winning.

i think he should completely change his game plan ... he won at pb this year ... shorter course that requires a bit more shot making than most of the bomb/wedge courses ... if he changed his game plan and tried to become a fairway guy, he could compete at colonial and the heritage type places ... i realize that's not his dna, but he cannot compete with koepka and co. ...

It's the offseason, since golf is effectively over. So it's time to speculate

I think he should try playing righty first. Don’t you think his muscles are all basically new from that side. Right ? Imagine. He probably hits it 360 or so in the air.

There's no doubt his recent play is horrible (similar to last year). But he has more wins than Adam Scott, Jason Day, Spieth, and JT this year.

I've wondered if he will ever change his schedule to play more second tier events on somewhat shorter courses (and possibly cut back the number of tournaments even more). But I don't know if he really cares. If he can get hot one week next year, that's probably better and more meaningful than racking up a bunch of higher finishes on easier setups.

Regardless, he's earned the right to do whatever he wants. People should just be prepared that he may look good for some stretches but will also look pretty bad a lot too. Nevertheless, he's still relevant 5+ years after most guys have completely lost it.

I think he needs to lighten up on the swing speed training and focus on shallowing his swing out some more. The speed he has gained over the last couple of years is remarkable but only if he can find his ball. As of late it seems he has been even more inaccurate than normal. Almost like it has changed his swing dna a bit

Phil has been a terribly inaccurate driver of the golf ball since he turned professional. Was likely the same in college. Nothing is going to change for him in regards to accuracy at this point.

That's actually not true, from when he turned pro, up until 2002 Phil's driving accuracy was consistently over 65% and according to PGATOUR.com, it was actually 71.08% in 1995. The big dip came around 2007 when he started working with Butch. I think Phil should go back to that hot 3-wood he was playing in 2013. I remember at the US Open and The Open that year he hit more fairways then I've ever seen him hit.
