Who is the next dominant player on the Champions Tour?

It started with Hale Irwin, then the torch was passed to Bernhard Langer. Langer is still winning, so not done by any stretch, but who is the next dominant player to hit the over 50 circuit? It may not happen right away, but some day in the near future. I would imagine it has to be a closer, nearing or already in his 40's.

My personal interest level isn’t high enough to research, but the best putter age 48 and older is a great bet. Off the top of my head - Furyk.

I was going to go with either Furyk or Stricker. Strick has shown he can win on the champions tour, but also still enjoys playing the PGA from time to time as well as having a pretty relaxed schedule.

Ernie turns 50 in a couple months.

I doubt Ernie has the interest in the Champions Tour. I hope he does, I like watching him play and I enjoy the Champs Tour coverage. It gets bagged on a lot on this board, but they show more actual golf in 3 hours of coverage than CBS does in a month of tournaments.

I should have added the caveat about the upper tier players of the last 20 years or so, like Ernie Els. I think they have so much money now and are probably sick of the travel, I doubt they would be out in the Champions Tour, save the occasional event. Guys like Irwin and Langer were pre-Tiger, so basically pre-big money in pro golf.

Interesting list. I think Phil and Ernie are out. Furyk maybe. The dark horse there could be Mike Weir. He hasn't made much money in the last 15 years or so, too short and the distance boom left him behind. So that could be a major motivating factor.

The next dominant player on the Champions Tour hasn't been born yet.

I would pick Furyk. He will be able to play regular tour for a while still which could slow him from dominating Champions.

But as of now doesn’t have the 20 wins, so could turn to champions at some point, and he can score

Don’t think stricter will ever play the schedule to rack up Lange/Irwin numbers

Retief Goosen is contending in just about every event he plays in

Didn't Phil just win on the PGA Tour a few months ago? That's not exactly chopped liver.

Mike Weir and Jim Furyk might be the perfect candidates for the Senior Tour, but it honestly depends on if they want to play a consistent schedule out there.

I think Phil is going to play zero or less events on the Champs Tour, and it’s tough to dominate that way.

Maybe, but you still see Els traveling to play. Personally, I don't think he would dominate, but I do think that a lot of the guys enjoy the competition and comradeship of being out on tour...maybe not 30 weeks a year, but at least some.

Furyk or Stricker unless Phil decides to go play.

KJ is as fit as they come at 50. I wouldn’t bet against him to be a big winner on the Senior Circuit.

Shouldn't you have said, "you're"? Your is the second person possessive adjective, used to describe something as belonging to you. Your is always followed by a noun or gerund.

Stricker, Furyk and Els. Stricker might win 7-8 times next year if he plays more

If it is going to be anyone, it is going to be Fuyrk.

Playing well enough to finish 2nd at Sawgrass earlier in the year and he's never been reliant on distance to golf his ball better than almost everyone. I can see him picking fields apart by hitting every fairway, every green and putting even half decent for him.
