Cobra vs US Kids

Recommended Posts

My 8 year old is getting pretty serious. He played his first real tournament last week and has been to a couple drive chip and putts. He has a set of Cobra junior clubs but I see a lot of US Kids. I think the US Kids may be a little lighter which would probably help him. Anybody have any comparison opinions?

My 7 yr old daughter started off with the cobra set and it was too heavy for her. She now uses the US Kids 48" does well with the new set.

My 6 yr old son started off with the cobra set as well and its perfect for him. He swings a lot faster and is more stronger due to him playing in little league.

Every kid is different.

Flynn makes custom junior clubs. His clubs come in three different headweights and you can customize the color of the shafts and grips. He has great customer service and just came out with a new model (Flynn Alto series) which seems to be getting good reviews. The selling point for Flynn is the customer service and the customization. I personally liked his stuff better than US Kids. Many young juniors will buy a shaft from Flynn and stick that in a adult head driver. His shafts are made by UST which is a good company.

My kid is now in OEM but from my perspective if I had it to do over again I would go for Flynn over USKids and will if my younger son goes into the game as well. You simply cannot beat the customer service you get with Flynn. I truly believe that Mike cares deeply about all of his customers. Great example was last year I backed over my son's driver and emailed him about getting one ordered the exact same as he had before. On a Saturday Mike emailed me back within 45 minutes saying the shaft was boxed ready to go and he rush shipped it for no extra charge. On the other hand I am believing more and more that USKids has allowed themselves to become way to dominated by profit margin over what is best for junior golfers. Further, it seems Mike has caught up to the technology and quality of USKids TS clubs and is producing some really great stuff. From your original question I have seen the Cobra Jr. Clubs and outside the F series junior drivers they really are not in the same league as USKids or Flynn clubs.

I'd suggest US Kids for irons and Cobra F9 Junior Driver. For the irons, it the child needs help with swing speed, the lightweight series are ideal. Cobra Junior driver's are great and way better than the driver that comes with the junior set.

I will also second the Cobra Jr Driver, the the model prior to the F9. It came with two shafts enabling me to get two different lengths so hopefully my 11 yr old can plan the same head for a few years.

We played US Kids in ultra light a number of years and they were fine (didn't know Flynn existed). I purchased the Cobra SL iron set, but plan on purchasing a Flynn Hybrid to try a club out.

My 7yo daughter goes with OEM driver/hybrid heads (Cobra womens FMax - lightest setup) with Flynn shafts. Seems to work really well since she's 40lbs soaking wet and needs the lighter club weights.

I would highly recommend moving kids to the OEM driver heads with higher lofts...huge distance and accuracy gains compared to USK driver.
