Erin Hills/Kohler Trip Advice

Heading out to Erin Hills/Kohler in a few weeks for what I am hoping is an incredible few days! Hoping to leverage everyone's expertise here to get some advice on a few last minute logistical questions.

We are flying into Milwaukee early Friday morning and have a 2:20pm afternoon tee time at Erin Hills, with our next tee time at 2:50pm the following afternoon up at Blackwolf Run - River. The two main questions I have are where should we stay Friday night, somewhere between Erin Hills and Kohler, and do you think there is enough time to play 18 Saturday morning and still get to Blackwolf before our tee time at 2:50pm.

Lastly, any course recommendations between Erin Hills and Kohler, if that is enough time?

Yes, there's definitely enough time to play a round on Saturday morning before your 2:50 pm tee time at the River course. Logistically it would be easier to play the Meadows course, but personally, I'd play the Irish course. It's ~20 minutes from Blackwolf Run, so you should have no problems getting to the PM round.

Whistling Straits is 15 minutes from Sheboygan. There are plenty of hotels near I-43. It's over an hours drive from Erin Hills, so if you plan to play an early Saturday morning round you do not want to be staying near EH.

If you want to play other courses outside of Erin Hills and the Kohler courses, I would recommend looking in to the Bull at Pinehurst Farms in Sheboygan Falls. Great alternative to the Kohler Courses at a much more reasonable price.

The drive from Erin Hills to Kohler is only about 1:45, if I remember correctly. We stayed in Hartford (15 min from Erin Hills) at an AmericInn and it was fine. Also in Hartford is Washington County golf club, a solid public course. One thing to consider if you are looking at playing other American Club property courses is their replay policy. You can play any course for a reduced fee, if you've already played any other course that day. So, the best deal is to play one of the cheaper Kohler courses early, then the more expensive in the afternoon. So play either Irish/Meadow Valley in the AM and then Straits/River as your reduced rate replay. The only downside to this is you can't book your afternoon round until after you've played your morning round. But, I've never had any problem getting out for replay unless they are closed for an outing.

I just got back from Kohler. Stayed at the American club. I second the replay option. It is a great deal and we were able to book both Straits and River on the replay. No suggestions on where to stay but Stefano's and Il Ritrovo in Sheboygan are both great spots for dinner! Have fun!
