Hand path in transition more down or more out?

When viewed DTL, is the correct hand path more down towards your back foot or more out towards the ball? I've always thought it should be more down to keep from getting OTT, but seems like it's harder to get the club to shallow; in fact it wants to steepen if the hands go down & the clubhead stays up. If I keep the hands more up & moving diagonally out towards the ball, the club shallows much better. What are your thoughts? Thanks...

If you trace the hand path of tour players, the path starts out steep and shallows later. A lot of the initial drop is just from the body dropping with knee/hip flexion, so relative to the body they might not drop as much. In general, from what I've seen, I dont think you want the hands working steeply down very long at all, but you also dont want them to work out at the ball immediately from the top.

It depends how deep they are at the top of the backswing.

Tiger 2000 had ca verical hand path during transition.

I've seen these but I've always wondered if we are confusing the very start of transition where everything truly is passive (and of course they will go down) with the "intent" of the arms once you get past that initial transition, if that makes sense.

All hand paths are some amount down and out. It depends where BS is as to how much of each. For example if hands are high and not much depth in BS it’s probably not a good idea to have them travel out much in transition.

For me: if the hands are in line or just behind the heel of the trail foot in the top the swing; the hands diagonally move along the length of the trail foot.

Here the trail elbow plays an important supporting role. Not easy because it is the deepest positioned body part at the top which moves towards the center of the swing.

To maintain proper width and stretch in the down swing I try to sense the motion of the trail elbow somewhat around the heel of the trail foot into direction of the waist and then toward the hip.
