Field is fairly weak. Only six players in the World's Top 20 are teeing it up (Minjee, Ariya, 6ix, Sei Young, So Yeon, and Hyo Joo).

Weather looks spotty at times with a chance for rain and t-storms on Friday through Sunday.

Coverage looks OK with three hours per day, but it pales compared to the WBO coverage.

My pick this week is a bit of a dark horse, Morgan Pressel. She's had three top 10's in her past seven tournaments. Ariya should be a factor, and Mi Hyang and Minjee should be in the mix.

I would say this is really a great chance for a young upstart to win but really most times it's not. The conditions (winds) usually cause fits for young players and it takes them a few years to get the hang (unless you grew up in it). I'go with somebody with a little bit of experience, so I'll pick So Yeon Ryu (more just hoping for her cause she seems lost right now).

@Stooch

Can't find So Yeon on the parings; she may've withdrawn.

Surprised there're only 132 players; why didn't they fill up the 144 total with more LET players?

Nothing major. Seems like not playing well and just tired.

1soyeonryu: Hi all! Many people have been asked my about @ladies_scottish and I am not competing this week. I love playing links golf and always enjoyed to play @ladies_scottish but I really need some time off. I wish all the best to the players this week?

Ha. TBF normally I'd have zipped passed it, but I wanted to see if they'd change the order of the holes - based off what the regular routing is for members - the same as for the men, assuming so... but that's still TBD :-)

Golf is never easy even for the best:

Anna Nordqvist

“I think definitely it gives you a little bit more peace about the things you're doing and you work on the right stuff,” Nordqvist said on Wednesday in North Berwick. “Hit it really well at Evian for two days. A couple bad breaks on the back nine, and missed the cut and you're sitting out the weekend and that's definitely not going to boost your confidence, especially when you're hitting it good. It's a fine line. But it's just nice to see what I've been working on for a long time is starting to pay off a little bit.”

Korea finally remembers Hyo Joo Kim

"Kim Hyo-joo, 24, is considered the most stable player of the season. He entered 13 times and entered 9th or 10th place. It is the top 10 finish rate (69%). His average at-bats are second (69.31) after Ko Jin-young (24). Green play is particularly stable. He's the best at both average putts (27.89 strokes) and green hits (1.72 strokes). "

Wow, Anne and Mi Hyang lighting it up with -8 opening rounds. Scoring looks good, as there a dozen players within four shots of the lead.

The best is to win as much of the $130,000 needed all at a single tournament.

Good start for Muni in round 1; she can earn about $135,000 solo second and $90,000 solo third.

Mi Hyang Lee is one of the leaders; she is 26 years old in her eighth LPGA season.

Mi Hyang has won twice, but her career record can't compare to either Lydia Ko nor In Gee Chun; but she's having a better year than both.

For the same reason, it's cavalier to write off either Lydia or In Gee; especially because both are younger.

I don't write them off in the sense that they will be stuck in this state (or worse) forever. I think there's enough natural talent in both of them that they can definitely produce some better results than they've put up this year.

I think the question is whether they can get back to anything that somewhat resembles where they came from (and I don't mean strictly 3x+ wins per year for Lydia). For better or worse, that's what we associate these players with (and hope/expect out of them). Said another way, they will be different players if their category is ranked ~#20-#50 and book a win every now and then (once a year, probably once every other or few years over an extended period).

We've obviously seen many people fall-off from the top tier without warning. Maybe the state of gloom is too high now for the same reasons.

What is the money list cut to keep her card and if she doesnt make it, does she go back to Q-school?

The first tier is Top 80. This is the first bucket on the priority list. There is also a bucket for players that finish 81-100, and this bucket comes ahead of the Q-Series qualifiers (there are other various smaller buckets in between). There is also a bucket for 101-125, but this comes after the Q-Series qualifiers so if you end up in here I assume many (especially the younger ones) would try Q-Series again.

There is also a slight benefit to finishing inside the Top 150. I think basically you can skip stage II of the qualifying. Any half decent finish this week will probably ensure she's above that threshold.

I'm more optimistic; both can be consistent winners.

In Gee clearly had been going through swing changes. It takes time to settle in, signs are that she'll put it together before end of 2019.

Lydia won't be another Yani; she won't be the Lydia of old but no reasons she can't contend like Inbee has been.

It's one day at a time and one shot at a time.

The LET players are really struggling. With many LPGA regulars sitting out this week, the LET players should shine. However, there are only 3 in the top 25.

The course looks nice, but I'd like to see a few more bunkers. The weather is supposed to get worse tomorrow.

I guess they don't want a + winning score with that setup today letting them get a buffer before the weather starts.

The men ripped up the course, so even though they said it was tough in practice they should have known they didn't have to total neuter the course, as it's not that tough until you get on the greens.

Be interesting to see how bad the storms rolling through tomorrow are. Be really odd to see them brought off the course with lightning.

The weather has turned. Huge change in the scoring. Most players appear to be above par for the round. Caroline is +5 through 15.
