Swinging out to ball causing open face

I was experimenting a little last night and made an interesting discovery. When I tried to shallow out my swing by swinging out to the ball more, as needed with longer clubs, I have a hard time closing the face to the swing path. Also, what I noticed is the more out I get, the more likely I am to chicken wing the left arm. It isn’t just the downswing either, I can’t get the same feeling on the back swing. I have been trying to get my back swing steeper with more width (seems to be a common theme here right now), but this is more difficult to perform with longer clubs (woods). The end result usually ends up being too steep on the downswing with a swing bottom behind the ball, or swing out to shallow, and leave the face open.

I know, videos… I hate taking videos of my swing, it actually causes me extreme anxiety to setup a camera and video my swing. If someone can help without seeing video that would be great.

I think less tilt of the shoulders. Have to keep arms higher, they don't travel down as much. Not sure how else to do it...

I assume the pelvis movement should be the "zipper away", and I am not sure which wrist movement shallows the club. The only thing I can think of is forearm rotation at the top of the swing, and that leaves the face wide open too. Point of fact, I have been trying to have less forearm rotation in the back swing period. For me it feels like none, obviously not the case.

Anyway, this is just annoying. I play with golfers almost everyday that have bad swings. But their bad swings generally are consistent through the bag. If they have a hard time hitting their driver, they have a hard time hitting irons, etc. It seems that I am an anomaly when it comes to my iron striking vs driver.

The frustration is real!

Went to the range last night, which is really hole #1 at my course, and hit basically a bucket of balls with only the driver. Focus was on no manipulation of the wrists. I tried to make my wrists as loose as they could possibly be, of course this meant I had no idea at all what they were doing. But this brought about some decent drives, with my miss being more in line with my irons instead of wiping it off the planet. Whether or not I will be able to do this while actually playing, well that is the question for the ages...
