Play better without glove?

Recommended Posts

I've been playing a zerofriction one size fits all glove for like a year now (obviously been through a few not just one), I really loved the ease of one size, and a tee holder on the back. Last couple of months I've been in a kind of slump, draw hooking off the tee, inconsistent contact on irons, short clubs were fine. Today I get frustrated at the range and take the glove off. I start hitting literally everything pure, put the glove back on, back to rubbish lol. I went straight to the proshop and bought a tight fitting glove, gonna test tomorrow haha. I wonder if this has been an issue the whole time I've been using the glove.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

I take my glove off for any shot within about 50-60 yards because I feel like I'm in far more control of my swing without it (even though my glove fits fairly snugly). I have also had occasional success getting back into the correct rhythm when I'm having a bad round if I hit a couple of shots with the glove off.

That being said, I'm not exactly sure why it helps...

I've never even heard of a one-size-fits-all glove; so, yeah, your glove certainly might have something to do with it.

The main idea of a glove is to provide your hand a no-slip (and no-slop) grip on the club so that you don't add tension by clenching the club tighter. Maybe your glove is too loose on you, and/or is too slippery.

...And then there are the folks who simply prefer the feel and results from using no glove at all. It's all very personal. You just need to see what works best for you. But I'd definitely start with a glove that fits you ["like a glove"].

I definitely play better with no glove. I keep some gloves around to use during the very sweatiest part of summer and occasionally on a really cold day in winter. But it's a definite distraction even with a glove that fits perfectly.

I can't imagine playing in some sort of stretchy one-size-fits-all glove. Yikes! Of course I couldn't imagine playing in a glove with tees stuck in it either, that seems awful.

Never used a glove. Maybe a piece of tape on a finger or two, but no need for a glove.

I prefer to not wear one, but on the hot humid days there's no choice.

No glove 90% of the time, but combination of heat/humidity demands it sometimes so when that happens I'll have it on for my tee shots for sure and after that who knows. If walking more likely to need it, but never with wedges/chips/pitches. With new grips I can often avoid it altogether no matter what the heat/humidity, but not the case this year even though I could use them.

Here in chuck town before 10 am heat index already 106 with 81 dew point. Nuts to even think about playing but glove or no glove really doesn’t matter in these conditions which last all summer.

I'm the same. Switched to Golfpride Tour Wrap grips. They are big squishy tacky grips as long as my hand is dry. As soon as my hand starts to sweat, the grips get very slippery. Only on really hot and humid days do I need a glove. I have four brand new gloves at home but use an old ratty, on its last legs, Nike glove on the course when conditions necessitate it. A glove is one more thing to worry about. Golf is simpler without it.

I used to play without a glove, but after injuring my left wrist my doctor told me to be sure to always wear a glove while golfing. I used to get some moderate wrist pain after playing golf but since putting the glove back on I haven't had any. Not sure if that is just a coincidence, but it is enough to convince me to keep the glove on.

I don’t wear a glove during the summer, and for that exact reason I put Iomics on. I make sure to wipe my hands off often and haven’t had a problem with slippage. Gloves are just too expensive and going through 2-3 per round when it’s 105+ is just insane.

I’ve had terrible experiences with synthetic leather gloves. They felt like my hand was sliding around inside. Had real issues swinging with them. Went back to Cabretta and all was good.

I’ve always played with a glove and my hands get sweaty easily so I can’t really do the no glove thing.

Same here...have never used one. I use Dri-tac grips, and only need Dry hands powder on the most humid days. Otherwise, just a wet towel and rub of the grips.

Just always felt more comfortable with no glove...and no need for the on & off, glove ripping, etc.

I only use a glove when I play, and then not from 100 yards in. I don't use one when I practice which began from cheapness more than necessity.

Same for me, any shot within 75 yards I go no glove for the added feel. I just feel more connected on those shots were I lighten up the grip pressure and really just try to feel the club only in the fingers.
