What's a good 50 degree wedge?

I use a KZG forged 50/6 wedge which I'm very fond of. My son is looking for a new 50* wedge to replace a Vokey with 12* bounce, which he finds is too much. So what would be a good option for a 50* wedge with bounce 6-10*? Could be forged or not. Could also be a gap wedge from a set of irons.

Suggest some good ones!

Vokey make two options in 50 degrees. One is the 50.08 which is the most often-seen version in my experience. And there is the 50.12 model your son doesn't like. Would the same basic sole shape with four degrees less bounce be something he might like?

I also have a 52.08 model which seems quite low bounce to me. Vokeys are typically bendable up to 2 degree weak or strong. Bend that one down to the 50.06 and it would be a quite low bounce, medium-width sole gap wedge. He might like that a lot.

Sorry, I'm a long-time Vokey user so my answer to most wedge questions ends up being something in the Vokey range ;-)

P.S. Titleist will factory bend them the two degrees weak at no extra charge.

    Hey

On -, @pmcuk so funny this came up. super random have an old JPX 825pro GW sitting in my office from a one off set I sold and the guy didnt want the GW. My co-worker grabbed it and we were talking about how good it was LOL!

With that being said, Dynlaite S300 (So 115gram shaft) Stiff, 50* lofts, Cavity back and 7* of bounce.
I like my traditional matching set up wedges (OCD) but this thing is long and forgiving and part of a set. (in comparison)
Vokey SM4 50.08* Wedge flex can hit this thing about 110ish much higher more spin
Vokey SM5 50.08* X100 hit about 108 much lower less spin
JPX825pro 50.07 Dynalite S300 118ish about the same as a Wedge flex just a good amount longer.

I am 100% there are a bunch of these random set GW floating around that can be had for a song.... So unless your son is OCD and needs a matching set (sounds like not) go through the used bins for a cheap set GW. They are awsome and usually do have lower bounce from a set to mesh with the original, Some of the separate purchases have varying bounce so its a hit or miss. Im pretty sure the loose set GW are WAY cheaper than a one off Vokey or Mack Daddy?

Good suggestions already. I forgot about the JPX series - good call. I'm in the UK so a bit less choice but plenty going used on the internet from the usual auction site(s).

I'm in the UK, and can recommend a Titleist Forged 50.....from Japan, hahahah! I have a 56 on the usual auction sites as we type, but the 50* might be up for grabs too.

I have used a Vokey 50.08 SM5 and currently bag the 50.08 SM6. Both are bent to 49.07 both for gapping and bounce and I do like them a lot. I use the 49 mostly for full shots, occasionally a long bunker shot. Play mostly in the softer Northwest (Vancouver area), and on drier tight lies like in Palm Springs and Hawaii. So they pretty versatile for me (I'm more of a sweeper).

I've had the SM7 52.08 for a while but found a cheap deal on a like-new 50.12 just the other day. I want to bend it to 49 and figure starting with 12 degrees of bounce it will play fine bent to 49.11 for me. I find the 52.08 pretty low bounce (plus it's the wrong loft for its spot in the bag). But I'm a high-bounce player all the way.

I play the 50.08 Vokey. Maybe a little less bounce will work better for him. I know that I struggle with high bounce wedges. I like the Vokey and it works well for me, but I do have my eye on the new Mizuno line coming out in September.

I'm a fan of Ping but their 50 degree wedges are all 12 degrees. The sole is different from the Vokey but it's still quite high bounce for a 50 degree wedge.

I can't speak specifically for the 50° - but I have the 52° TaylorMade MG "Standard Bounce" ... 12° I think ... and man, I love that wedge. It's pretty much my go-to for everything under 80 yards except bunker play - have the 58° for that.

It has a nice, square look at setup and the milled bottom seems to glide off the turf real nice. Most of the courses I play around here have a pretty tight cut around the greens and it performs great off that. Really big fan of these wedges.

Vokeys and RTX4's would be my choice. T20 might have a shot too if you are blending with Mizuno irons.

TXG did a nice question and answer where they talked about gap wedges. If it's a club that you hit full shots with it should typically match your set.

Not trying to thread-jack and I know OP was asking about lower-bounce options.

But literally the day after seeing this thread I picked up a Vokey SM6 50.12 and played it this weekend. Man I love that club. So much better than the GW from my JPX 900 Hot Metal set. I like a lot bounce, myself.

Sorry. Now back to suggestions for pmcuk's son o:)

CBX 50* is unparalleled, especially on full shots. I'm not sure if 10* is available, but I use an 50/11 CBX and love it. It does have a bit of an odd sole design which makes super open flop shots a little challenging, however it is still very workable with an open face, around the green with bump and runs, and even fairway bunkers or green side bunkers towards far pins.

Another vote for a Vokey SM7 F-Grind in 50.08. Another good option would my current gamer, the Mizuno T-7. I have it in 51 which is either 8 or 9 degrees bounce (check my signature for verification), they also had a 50 degree wedge option with a similar bounce configuration. The sole is wide-ish and it has just a little bit of heel relief so it can be played open faced to a certain degree.

I’ve always been a fan of a Vokey 50/08. My favorite forgiving gap wedge is a Ping Eye2 PW at 50.5*. I’m guessing it’s not conforming; however.
