River's Island Golf Course Sevierville/Knoxville Area Update

This was sent out by email from River's Island Golf Club. Just thought I would post it for anyone coming this way and thoughts of playing.

River Islands Golf Club is currently closed for maintenance and will reopen on Saturday, August 17th. Unfortunately, our web site is currently unavailable as well which has many people wondering if the course is still open. Please know, River Islands Golf Club is a fully operational 18 hole facility, despite the rumors and speculation. It is true, the course is under new ownership. Part of the reason for our current closure is to make certain improvements which are more challenging while open to the public. Improvements will continue to be made throughout the year, as time permits. As one of the oldest course in Knoxville, we are aware there are many changes both the public and ourselves would like to see. We are prioritizing those changes, and will communicate them as necessary. For instance, we plan on resurfacing the bridge along Hole #3 for a more comfortable ride this Fall...In preparation for significant changes in 2021, River Islands Golf Club will be renamed in the near future. As one of the best course layouts in Tennessee, we encourage you to enjoy the golf club beginning again on August 17th through September, as we will be introducing fantastic pricing.

Thanks for the update. I really hope they can get that course figured out. As someone from Nashville who plays it when I’m in town, I never understood why it struggles. I love the course and it would seem it should get PLENTY of play.

Played it last week. Getting very “rough” around the edges. Not much mowing of rough or weed eating. Supposedly has sold again as well. Weekday rate was $39 which was about $20 too much for the condition it was in. Greens were good too f there was a positive. A ball off the edge of the fairway is 50/50 whether it will be found or not. Made for a slow round. Love the layout but I don’t see it making it through the winter unless some big changes are made.
