Ping Piper vs. Scotty Squareback 1.5 vs. Spider X

SDGolfRookieSDGolfRookie Members Posts: 108 ✭✭✭

Just picked up a Scotty SquareBack 1.5. Feels great but I always want a Scotty, get a Scotty, but then feel guilty about spending the $ and sell the Scotty.

Jury is still out the SquareBack 1.5. Also considering Ping Piper Valut 2.0 Stealth, Slight Arc.

For anyone using the Ping Piper (I like the Vault 2.0 Sealth Look):

  • How do you like it?
  • How does it compare to the Scotty SquareBack (or, Spider X for that matter?)

Spider X has been my favorite putter so far.

Ditto on the Spider X. Not leaving my bag anytime soon. Do yourself a favor and buy extra head weights for it from TM to experiment if you go that route. I added the 6g weights and has worked wonders.

I came from a Valut 2.0 Voss.....Loved the look, could not stand the feel

Find a Redwood Piper. Best feeling putter of all 3.

not a fan of the spider at all - sits open and I don't like the feel. I'd go squareback or ping

You should look at other spiders. Most I’ve seen sit closed. lol. They are all over the map in the store as to how they sit.

Thanks for the feedback. Messed around and came to the conclusion (for now, ha) of:

    • I need toe hang. Especially because I tend to backswing outside of the line (!). The beefier mallets help me keep the backswing short for some reason.
    • Spider X works for me, so it stays as gamer (I think it puts such great top spin roll on the putt. Also, there is something to having the black heavier shaft? The putter just feels good and weighty, even with the lighter head)
    • Keeping the 2018 Squareback 1.5 (love the look, even though left to right it is longer than the Spider X. Love the Spider X compact face with Navy/White Lines)
    • Getting (probably?) 2018 Newport 2.5 (just have to have an Anser-like putter for sentimental purposes)
    • Not buying another putter ever again (until like a few weeks from now?)

I’ve tried so hard to like the Ping Vault 2.0 line. I think they look so0000 good. Just liked the feel and look of the Spider X and Scottys more. Plus, after trying specifically the Piper, I didn’t like the thick top line.

    FWIW. Keep puttin!
