MP69 vs New set of MP18

Hi, I have been experimenting with a borrowed MP18 6-iron with the Dynamic Gold AMT white X100 (on course, trackman and range work), my fitter recommended this shaft (and duly charged a respectable £80 for the fitting session). The AMT White X100 seems easier to load than my incumbent PX-6.5 (I'm getting older, my 6i clubhead speed is 90-92mph now). Most importantly, I am hitting the dead centre of the face with the AMT White X100 (still playing # golf, 15 greens in regulation), and I can hit draws, lovely trajectory, as I load the shaft correctly with the AMT X100 White, which I struggle with the PX6.5 now (though I can hit dead straight shots).

However, a new set of MP18 is over £1100. The fitter recommend I send my existing MP69 clubs to Mizuno UK to get them re-shafted with AMT White X100 (quote is £400 for 3-pw inclusive with new grips). My MP69 are in mint condition, What do you guys think ?

I think the 69's are better than the 18s. 69s are softer feeling for me , never cared for the 18s. For me they didn't have the mizuno feel. I would do a reshaft of the 69s OR wait until the new mp 20s are out in September.

Totally agree!

I have both the MP69s and MP18s (SC, not MB) and play both on and off. The 69s feel softer, are more playable, and just a better iron overall. The MP18s will likely not stay once the MP20s come out...

Another vote for the older set. Better clubs. That seems like a lot for a reshaft though. Find a set on here and get a local builder to do it.

Considering he’s worried about the price of the 18’s getting the 20’s would be more expensive. On the other note, not sure the hate for 18’s as they’re the best irons I’ve ever owned (owned a lot)

Definitely that, a reshaft should not be that expensive

How much more shaft than a dgs300 are you in need of ? Lots of stock mp68 mp69 with a dgs300/400 on bst/ebay Learn too reshaft you save a lot !!

To be clear - the MP18s are great irons. Did not mean to hate on them in any way. I have a set and enjoy playing with it. Just saying that the MP69s feel softer.

Now if we were comparing against something else (yes MP25 - I’m talking about you), the MP18s would win hands down...

I have two back up bags- one has 32's, the other has 69's. There not going anywhere, I'd chose 69's over 18's everyday!

If you can find a set of AMT pulls for a good price on the bay, and a good local club builder, you can do the shaft swap for a lot less than Mizuno charges. I have a set of AMT X100 Tour Issue in excellent condition I can let go.

Another vote for reshafting the MP-69s. That being said, I'm surprised the quote is so high. When I reached out to Mizuno in the US for prices on a reshaft, they quoted me $20 a club for KBS Tour 90 or DG 105--basically at cost.

I agree. 69 feel better. I had the 18 and don’t see any reason to spend the extra for them.
