Caveman model #2 putter

Had some downtime at work so made up this putter I had been thinking about for awhile. Still needs some tweaking, thinking about trying to have a machine shop mill the face for me to add the correct loft and take off a touch of weight. But no big deal this is just me playing with die grinders and a MIG welder.

So basically it's 3 pieces of basic hot rolled flat bar, 1 1/2" piece 1 3/8" and 1 1/4" piece, cut to shape and welded together, then a 3/8" bolt with its head cut off for a neck haha. I was playing with the torch to try and give it a nice varying torch finish, but I've wanted to try and oiled finish, so I heated the whole putter evenly then rubbed it with some CAT tdto oil and was stoked on the finish it gave. Just a hacker playing around!

Has sort of a Bettinardi 3 step jam shape (not a bad thing at all?), enjoy these types of threads and seeing what folks come up with given a bit of time, skill, and inspiration to do things differently. Keep us posted on how it ultimately turns out and how it works for you.

Thanks guys, I'm not certain on the weight as my little digi scale only goes up to 250g. But its in the 400 region for sure. Glued it up to a shaft last night with some 2 part epoxy. Thing is face balanced pretty much bang on, and is quite flat... which I intended, as I always tend to have my scotty sitting slightly toe up at address. Rolling putts on my mat at home with no grip on yet, the thing feels awesome. Really easy to keep square and make a nice sbst stroke with. I picked up a cheap grip for it when i grabbed the shaft, but now that I'm really digging the feel, I'm just gonna go grab a flatso 1.0 grip for it which is my choice for gamers.

The bolt neck I just had to file down the threads a touch to get them to fit into the shaft, and glued it up, basically using the threads as areas to hold the epoxy and make a good bond. In the future I could really see having a machine shop mill the face for me and add a touch more loft, as this thing sits its probably only a degree or 2 of loft, but im not a forward presser so the ball is coming off the face nicely inside making 10-12 footers. Also the milling could remove some stock and drop the weight a touch.

The torch finish while looking great in my eye, isn't durable at all, obviously there's a step the big boys do which I did not lol. When I masked the putter off to do the neck and shaft work/install, when I peeled the tape off it took a bunch of the oil finish off with it, so I just rubbed it down with scotchbrite pad and it now has a kinda weathered finish on it which I'm digging.

I'll update with some pics later of it finished off and the grip on! Take it out this weekend and see if I can hole some putts!

Got it gripped last night, along with this zing I had fixed up. Shes ready to roll, feels great. Bit of stamping and some paintfil will come next, and thinking a little drill tip style sight dot on the top line.

Its flat that's why I mentioned a couple times possibly having a machine shop mill the face for me to add a touch more loft and bring the weight down a bit. But its rolling quite well as is so well see, and it feels super soft without any milling seeing as its just hot rolled carbon steel.

If it was me, I'd get the face milled just to know it's perfectly flat...even if it's a super light milling. But if you're comfortable with it and it's rolling well, why mess with it!

Played 18 Sunday with it and I love it. Its face balanced and heavy so it feels super easy to make a nice consistent stroke with. Just have to get used to the speed with this headweight, but I wasn't far off I didn't blow any past the hole, just got timid on a few putts and left them short. But also sank about a 20+ footer for a nice birdie so shes stayin in the bag for now! haha
