It’s just easier to not reply. Anyone offering $50 less than my asking price isn’t serious anyway. Tire kickers of the worst kind. The block list continues to grow.

Some flavor of the month driver.
Some driving iron for Links courses.

A hybrid to save my bad shots.
Titleist blades when I feel lucky otherwise something more forgiving.
A Vokey wedge or 2.
I hate every one of my 17 putters.

I had one go $50 below and said good luck finding a sucker. ? I think a blue tensei pro 60tx with tour TM tip for $150 was a good price. He offered $100 I said nope. He got a little hurt.

I doubt he would’ve known what that meant.

This has been a trend of late. Also seems like people just don’t reply for certain things. Have a wtb ad and you offer what they are looking for and crickets. At least have the common decency to reply if you’ve already purchased.

He says good luck finding a sucker......my reply would have been I sure as heck don't want to find out I'm the sucker by selling it to you for that price.

Same. I had a guy say "I need you to lower your price" and had another one haggle me over $6... blows my mind. I just leave the conversation.

That ish has been going on forever here, and basically any second hand market place. Nothing new to the site now. Same with the lack of WTB replies, the "ill take it" and ghost, lowballs, haggling over 5 or less, or pretty much anything you can think of.

I think I’m in my 5th year here and this is the worst I’ve seen. It’s worse on other sites tho

It does happen everywhere. I sold a new computer monitor on Craigslist. Some entitled punk (sometimes you can just tell) offered me well less than half of asking. Told him make a real offer and we’ll talk. He tells me he can get them for this and that and I’m way too high and I just let it go. FWIW it sold a few days later for my asking price.

It is this way with everything you try to sell now. Try selling an auto. Sold a truck for my dad a while back and I was amazed. Two different people tried to tell me that I had to lower the price to what their bank would loan. They felt that I had to lower it because that determined the fair price. They were perplexed when I tried to explain down payments. Thank goodness for a good ole cash sale.

The old “I can get that cheaper from...” negotiation method. That may be one of my biggest pet peeves when bartering, I pretty much shut down after that. I’ll respond asking them why they’re negotiating with me when there’s already somewhere else at the price they’re trying to get me to - it seems like a waste of both of our time. I’m not a store and I don’t price match, nor do I care what your cousin’s buddy is selling his for.

Yep - that’s why I mentioned I just let it go. Cause I had the same exact thought. No need for him to waste his time with me when he can score them elsewhere. And clearly no need for me to waste another ounce of energy.

On the flip side I have seen some pretty crappy behavior from sellers as well here. Slow responses, not updating ads after items sell, never provide tracking, just sloppy in general. Compared to the guitar folks I normally deal with there are tons of amateur sellers here. This site used to be much better for classifieds.

Those $hitty buyers are now becoming sellers.

I had a good one recently. I responded to a WTB ad, sent pics per request, buyer said everything looks great and asked if he could pay more than my asking to have the clubs expedited, I said sure we can work something out.

THEN he went silent for 12 hours......and then lowballed me on my original asking price.

Sold a couple vehicles recently, the amount of offers that were $2000-3000 under asking were crazy. The ones that annoyed me most though were people that wanted to pay me asking, but give them a bill of sale $5K under what they paid so their insurance would be cheaper.

Uhhh, yeah bud, I might commit fraud for someone (no one if the cops are reading this) but it ain't gonna be a stranger from the internet.

None of your examples are a recent phenomenon, and there are plenty of threads addressing those (valid) complaints. OP was talking (I think) about the recent influx of new members who seem to be products of Facebook golf swap meet pages, who think they can bully their way to the prices they want to pay. And, it probably has been working since the redesign, with no indication of length of membership or feedback displayed under member's avatars. New guys who think they've got this BST all figured out just from lurking, just kind of act like they are the man around here, and hope that the person on the other end is inexperienced enough to fall for it.

I've ran into a couple of them - they act all cagey in the beginning when I'm trying to get a feel for who they are. It goes from them try to insinuate that they have many, many transactions here, to they actually just joined last week... but they have all kinds of deals they've done in FB groups and ebay! You can trust them! It is definitely worse than ever.

Ease of access is the major culprit for this, with pay-to-sell options that can bypass valuable experience gained from putting in the 75 post requirement. It's just another hustle for the guy who's sick of Facebook golf swap groups and Ebay fees. And it only costs 5 bucks to sell here!

I've been on this site for 5-6 years now, don't know exact date since its gone with new site...and I did have over 330+ positive feedback before the site change, with another 50 or so that never left feedback...and another dozen sales recently with no option for feedback. In the past I didn't run into "many" situations that are happening almost everyday, but I do 1,000,000% agree the new makeup of "members" is becoming frustrating.

I still don't get folks all up in arms over perceived low ball offers...where else would you be selling this stuff if it weren't for forums like this -- Garage sales, Golf Galaxy, Ebay (and get hit with sick fees 3 weeks later). Maybe ebay, but the others won't come close to within $50. I always reply to any offer and politely say -- can't do it for that, but would be able to drop to $______. Never get pissed....that lowball may be just testing the waters and ready to throw out a decent offer with a polite reply. Dealing with offers is just the cost of doing business on a forum...better than the stuff piling up in your garage or basement. :D

Again, I’m not trying to speak for the OP, but I didn’t take his post to be the run-of-the-mill lowball complaint thread. There’s plenty of those. And, like you said, someone making a lowball offer on an item doesn’t upset me. I’ll either politely say no, or in the ridiculously insulting lowball case, I just ignore the message. It’s a waste of my time and annoying, but nothing to get bent about.

I thought he was more speaking about the recent shift in tactics. In the last few months, I've gotten way too many people starting a conversation with me to inform me why my price on an item they are interested in is way too high, and that I need to immediately sell it to them at the price they’ve decided is the real value. An aggressive tone and pushy attitude with a lot of “bro”/ Jersey Shore/ tough guy tone sprinkled in. Not the standard issue “will you consider $80” for the item I have listed for $150. It’s more “Bro, that sick driver you gots listed for $200 is crazy high, no one is going to pay that much unless they gots rocks for brains. I’ve got like hundreds of sales on here, and that sh*t ain’t cool trying to charge dudes too much here. I’ll pay $100 for it, and that’s more than 2 of my homeboys paid last week. I can send payment next Tuesday.”

Agreed on all this, well put.

Seems with the influx of new users, the refresh made more than a handful of people who have been here for a bit super crotchety and whiney about all the change (even if these things have existed forever on here) lol and they take every chance to complain about whatever, and these new percieved "younger" members. This thread is no different than the bunch of the others.

Yes. My complaint is about after they low ball you , I tell them I can’t do it for that then they come back with insults and pissed that I didn’t drop $50 off a $150 shaft. There’s time I’ve offered $15 below asking of $250 and they say no. Cool not a big deal but I don’t insult them

Yep. Seen it myself.

Reading all the seller gripes ( which I know are not baseless ). I have to wonder. How many of you list as “ firm “ or no discount. Don’t ask ?

If you list obo then why cry about any offer ? Personally offering $100 for a $150 advertised item doesn’t sound outrageous. You should be willing to do the dance. You just come back and say “ can’t do $100 but I’ll do $125 “. Which is the obvious landing spot. If you won’t take $125 then please just advertise as “ firm don’t ask “. Save everybody the trouble.

And no I’m not defending anyone who doesn’t do the dance from the other side. If they get huffy tell them to eat poop.

Sounds like he had something to drink in the meantime. To that end though, sometimes you send a note interested to buy something and then go out and do something else. I wish in that instance, sellers - myself included - it doesn't mean the buyer has vanished.
