100 yards in, how do you play the wind?

I play a pretty high ball normally. I struggle in the wind with shots around 100 yards. Downwind can be even harder than into the wind. A right to left is deadly for me as I tend to draw the ball, especially with any type of knock down or partial shots.

So, what do you all do with 100 into the wind?

100 downwind?

100 with firm right to left wind?

Hit a 120-130 club with a shorter backswing, less speed and hit it solid.

Stand closer to the ball to keep it lower

Practice hitting knock downs with a PW or a even a 9 iron. Invaluable tool in the box.

I don't worry about the wind so much when hitting that distance by bringing it low. Ball isn't in the air long enough to move it noticeably. For me it's my 48* and hitting a firm 1/2 swing. Or a softer PW with the same backswing. Depends on how much spin you need.

Against the wind? My 120 club choked up and shortened.

It will come out lower and with less spin.

I think its a huge advantage to work on 3 or so options for those types of yardage. Better players will know more but I try to have a stock shot, a high fade type shot with one less club that I can rip at and spin and a low knockdown type shot I can swing easy on.

Follow Monte’s advice. It’s taken from the Tom Watson school of playing in the wind, and he might be the best to ever play in the wind. He just went up or down in club and hit it not super hard into the wind and hit it full with the wind, always hitting it solid. Simple but extremely effective.

Agree with Monte. I use this all the time. Learn how to hit your 120-130 club less than 100 yds. Left arm parallel swing with less arm speed, normal ball position. Hit solidly the use of less arm speed allows the ball to come off lower and still have enough spin to hold a green. I practice hitting a seven iron 100 yards alot... helps synch everything up and is a great shot to have. More club + less speed= lower ballflight .

Learn the knock down ad mentioned above. Lots of occasion to use such a shot

Lee Trevino said never hit a fade into the wind. Good enough for me. Straight or a little draw, take 1 or 2 more clubs and a 3/4 swing.

one more club, swing smooth but deliberate -- and think about flighting it lower to lessen the time it's in the air.

I typically adjust my set up and hand finish to hit low-boring punch shots into the wind. Depending on the wind, I club up one to three clubs.
