Storing Clubs in the Garage

I live in the Sierra foothils of California. Temps range from 30s in winter to 100+ in summer. We don’t have much humidity to speak of. Since I’m getting tired of carrying clubs upstairs into the house, am I ok just leaving them in the garage all year round? I don’t think we go more than two weeks without playing or practicing. I apologize in advance to my colder weather neighbors for my first world problems.

Yes, I live in southern Louisiana and all 12 of my sets stay in the garage.....

Here in NC it’s hot like the good side of the sun, garage is fine. Car trunk is no bueno

Why would it NOT be ok?

It's really about air flow and humidity. The trunk can get humid in the summer and lets face it, if you're storing your clubs in the trunk, you probably aren't cleaning and drying them before they go in there. This is a recipe for rust. Of course the heat in the trunk can also get way over 100, hot enough to soften some epoxies. Garage should be fine. Won't get as how, and better air flow if the clubs do go in wet. Of course there is the issue of people stealing stuff out of garages but that is more location dependent I suppose and they get stolen from cars also I know.

My clubs live in the trunk of my car for years. 20 to 100 degrees. Never had a problem.

I keep my golf clubs in the garage in the spring/summer/fall but migrate them to the basement in the winter. Gotta make room in the garage for the snowblower.

Ive lived in Ohio and S Carolina and my clubs are usually in the garage. No problems here.

Just don't leave food in the bag. Mice or other critters will chew through the pockets to get to the snacks.

My clubs have stayed in garage for years in deep south with 90s the norm for this time of year, never an ounce of trouble. Word of warning though about trunks or Suv hatches- son keeps his clubs in his old 4runner and the smell from sweaty gloves & towels is awful.

I work with a guy who used to live in Myrtle beach and he told me he’s seen guys leave clubs in their trunk in the summer and graphite shafts were deformed due to the heat.

I think the garage will be fine. Clubs in the house is living better than some peoples dogs, unfortunately.

High summer heat can also degrade the life of your golf grips, whether in trunk or garage.

Golf clubs definitely aren't as fragile as, say, a guitar, but I'd have to think it's better for pretty much anything to be stored in a climate-controlled environment as much as possible. The clubs themselves would probably see a pretty slow deterioration, but the bag, grips, gloves, etc. would likely see an accelerated deterioration vs. being stored indoors.

I live in Dallas area, keep my gamers and couple other sets in garage. No issues, except for rubber grips accelerated deterioration (not my gamers they have Iomics), but those are guest sets.

I wouldn't leave in trunk, no telling how hot gets in closed trunk in summer.

Thank you all for the replies. I ended up dragging everything back up the stairs and into the house. Since both my wife and daughter play, I have a lot of "caddying" to do before and after rounds. Someday, I'll just have to move into a house without stairs!
