Moving from Michigan to NC

So I am moving from southwest Michigan to Mooresville, NC. Once I get down there I will probably be looking to join a club and playing lots of golf. Any recommendations of courses to play and clubs to join in that area. I know pinehurst isn’t too far but what else you guys got?

The muni in Mooresville is a Donald Ross design that was restored by Kris Spence in 2016. Spence is considered to be the king of Donald Ross restorations.

Not much else in terms of golf actually in Mooresville. But the surrounding area has lots of quality golf to offer.

River Run is good. Home of the Davidson University golf team. It's usually where we go when I am in the area visiting my brother. I've only played NorthStone once. Very good P.B. Dye design from what I remember. No idea what membership cost is though. Birkdale is an Arnold Palmer design. Not the best layout in my opinion but overall, not bad either. Conditions can be hit or miss the hand full of times I have played. Verdict Ridge was a lot of fun to play but may be a bit out of the way from Mooresville. I have never played Highland Creek, Skybrook, Cowans Ford or Irish Creek. I have heard Cowans Ford and Irish Creek are hidden gems but have no direct knowledge.

Two kids who grew up at my home club are on staff at clubs farther down into Charlotte. Well, they are not kids anymore! One is at Carolina Golf Club, the other at Pine Island. If you have the scratch, Carolina Golf Club is phenomenal. Another Donald Ross design restored by Kris Spence.

Yes, the local Mooresville course is very nice, it's pretty busy as well. Look around, there are some nice courses. Irish Creek in Kannapolis is pretty good private course, not too bad price wise either. The good news is, you get to golf year round.

Thanks yeah I am excited to golf year round. Golfnow VIP will be so much more worth it as well. I am super excited to explore the area and see what courses I can find around there.

Recent Cary transplant chiming in. You should look out for a new friend that's a member at MacGregor Downs :) . Verrry nice course and amenities. River Ridge might be a trek but it's a fun semi-private course. 12 Oaks in Apex is a new private course --an interesting Jack Nicklaus design with some challenging humpback greens. You can't beat Lochmere's price when you catch a cheap round on Golf Now.

Best of luck with the move. As a fellow West Michigan transplant, the weather here is a lot more enjoyable IMO.

The OP is moving to Mooresville, not Morrisville!

Damn transplants...kidding! We transplanted to the Triangle 10 years ago and love the year-round golf. Traffic is worsening however...

Quite the trek indeed. River Ridge to Mooresville is 160 miles!

I think you've mistaken Mooresville (just north of Charlotte) for Morrisville (just east of Raleigh).

The course in Charlotte area is actually River Run, but I get the confusion. Lots of Moores and Rivers running around the ridge.

And Rocky River GC is in Concord.
