Is this basically a replacement for the AVX (my all time favorite) ball?

From article I read:

The 4-piece Left Dash Pro V1x doesn’t replace anything in the current lineup, and you won’t find it sitting on store shelves next to Titleist’s other offerings. It’s unlikely you’ll find a stash hidden behind the counter at your local pro shop either. “It’s not the secret menu at In-N-Out,” says Michael Mahoney. While there’s always a chance that some green grass accounts may choose to stock a few dozen for 3 or 4 players within the membership, the overwhelming majority of sales are expected to be through custom orders. I suspect that the overwhelming majority of golfers won’t ever know the Left Dash option exists.

Seems like a must try for me... I'm in for a dozen. AVX was great for me at first, but in reality is probably my cold weather ball now. I was in love (lust), but that was early season here. As the courses firmed up and the weather warmed, I realized it was not the ball for me all the time.

I'm going to buy at least a dozen or two and test them directly with the AVX and go from there. I swing about 105 with my driver, so I'd love to add a few more yards there, and keep the distance increases I saw in my irons with the AVX.

I go back to a local golf radio show where a Titleist rep was talking about a lower flying, lower spin ProV1. He said, a few years ago this wouldn’t have been seen as an improvement but there is a group of pros requesting it. I thought that may have resulted in the AVX, but apparently it is this ball.

Sincerely hope this doesn't spell the end of AVX. Became my all time favorite this year. Left dash and that they seemed to have stopped pushing the AVX has me fearing the worst. Hearing Bridgestone makes the next closest ball, which is where I'll be headed if AVX disappears.

I could see Titleist no longer producing the AVX however I don't think the left dash V1X would be a replacement. The two balls are completely different from a construction and dimple pattern standpoint. AVX is a 3 piece urethane with 352 dimples and the left dash V1X is a 4 piece urethane ball with 328 dimples. There is a 2nd AVX ball on the USGA conforming list with a different side stamp (dot AVX dot) than what is currently available at retail.

That doesn't make sense. Tour players are using the left dot because it spins less short game wise? The biggest complaint about the AVX performance is that it doesn't spin nearly enough to have the short game behavior that the current V1/V1X balls have. What sense does it make to produce a tour only ball and move it to retail if it doesn't have enough short game spin/control? The AVX was never a tour ball.

There are a handful of players that produce high spin or like lower spin...or when the course is soft or awfully windy, it comes in handy. The avx isnt popular among pros because its squishy and ball speed is slower than other balls

Yup. Or they tried something on their production line and didn't think it would sell. Really smart move by their marketing dept.

Doubt it. They are being offered as a custom order and won’t be found on the shelves of any retailer

That "article" has a slightly higher ratio of fact to Tony Covey spin than most MGS content. But you can still see every single paragraph alternating between what Titleist actually *says* about the ball versus Covey's exaggeration or speculation. So the main gist is probably correct but I would not infer any great amount of technical detail from that particular piece of content.

Keep in mind, that's the site where as you read the "Left Dash" article a pop-up asks if you want to "add 11.9 yard to your driver performance" and if you are "ready to bring your game to the next level".

_From a performance perspective, Left Dash (named for the “-“ on the left side of the side stamp) is described as a low spin Pro V1x. For context, it’s important to note within Titleist’s current lineup, AVX is low launch/low spin. Pro V1 is mid launch/mid spin, and Pro V1x is high launch/high spin. Those descriptions are, of course, relative, but the interesting note about Left Dash is with its high launch, low spin characteristics, it has a non-linear relationship to Titleist’s other tour-level offerings._

The first sentence is fact. The second is a bridge of facts tapering off into "...the interesting note about..." at which time it's pure spin and vague speculation. And the use of "non-linear" is a complete non-sequitur in this context, added because it sounds real technical and mathematical.

It performs exactly like ProVs in short game and off the wedge...tests confirm this. People saying orherwise are just seeing things.
