High launching driver shaft recommendations

Recommended Posts

Looking for a high launching driver shaft in extra stiff. Swing speed averages around 115 and driver has always been an inconsistency of mine so looking for a setup that is more focused around accuracy and forgiveness. Just picked up a G400 max with tour stock x stiff shaft they come with.

I’ve played the ad di 6x before and it’s okay I was told to try out matrix white tie so happy to hear thoughts on that or anything else anyone would recommend.

I’ve thought about this too only issue is when I do go after one I can really feel the shaft bend. Also I know it’s odd needing a high launch but it’s definitely a result of the amount of bow I have in my left wrist in the DS. Works great for me for all clubs except driver lol

Can you actually provide some numbers? What is your launch angle, peak height, AoA, spin, etc? You already play a 10.5* head so my assumption is that if you really are launching the ball too low, you're possibly striking the ball low on the face and/or have a fairly negative AoA. No shaft is probably going to fix that.

The MAX head will probably help a little bit but if you do have a pretty negative AoA or you hit the ball lower on the face, it still might not get the launch up enough.

I don't recall anything except for AoA which was negative and around -1 to -2 which is a lot better than it used to be. Still working on getting that better so I agree with you once that is better and my misses aren't too far in the negatives accuracy will increase

Meh, I don't see what accuracy or "consistency" have to do with a negative AoA. The tour average for driver AoA is a touch negative, so that's not your issue. Brooks... Jon Rahm... All hit a little down with driver. Perhaps work with a coach & fitter to get to root cause and then evaluate whether you need some swing changes or new equipment.

Just my .02

Matrix 7x3 is the best shaft I’ve played since my Fubuki K 70x, not sure that it’s any better but it is damn sure right up there.

It flies high, spins low & finds a tone of fairways. Both shafts are the longest I’ve ever played. The other high flyer that I would suggest is the Oban Kiyoshi Gold, 75x for me, also goes high, super long & feels absolutely like butter. It just doesn’t find as many fairways, we’ll that was until I tipped it 1”.

I can honestly not pick between the three but the White Tie 7x3 seems to be in the bag more than any.

HZRDUS HC Red 6.5 tipped 1/2”

I’ve never gone off manufacturer recommendations of launch for a shaft. Your driver loft is going to dictate the height more than anything. If you bow your wrist significantly and have a negative AoA I would recommend increasing driver loft but also move the ball up in your stance. When it comes to shafts you are talking about various kickpoints in the shaft. Supposed “high launch” shafts generally have a kickpoint closer to the head. Depends what you prefer but the shaft/weight/flex is to help you dial in consistent impact into the driver head. The driver head will then decide how to launch the ball based on your swing and degrees into the ball.

I'm going to check this out as it was recommended to me in my last lesson too. My instructor said he likes where my swings at now as my good drives are 0 to -1 AOA with a good launch and my "bad" drives are -2 to -3 AOA which lowers my launch and can cause more curve than I want. I could as he said work to launch it higher with driver but it might negatively impact my iron game and that's a big strength of my game.

I've got a G400 Max 10.5 with an Attas 4U 6 Tour Stiff playing at 44 inches. The 4U is a high launch shaft and feels amazing. The 44 inch length gives me much better contact and control. I highly recommend both the shaft and the shorter play length. You can get heavier weights for the G400 from Golfworks. Mine has a 13 gram in it.
