First time ever playing in the Golf week Arkansas Amateur Tour

So last year I was playing at my club and noticed an old high school friend in the parking lot. He said he was there playing in a golf tournament. He told me a little about it before his round and long story short I joined this season. It has flights Champ thru D....I'm in D. I usually shoot low 90's and can break into the high 80's at least once a month.

Needless to say playing in this league has been a little different than playing by myself at my club. I seem to let the pressure get to me soon as I step on the first tee box. Just can't seem to string many good holes together. My best score has been an 89 and my worst a 109. The over one hundred scores has been pretty humbling for me. I guess the one excuse I have is that I had never played any of the course's I shot over 100 on. For whatever that is worth.

My goal, at first, was to finish in the top 10 in my flight so I could go to Hilton Head and play in the national tournament at the end of the season. Lucky me I found out that this year they changed the rules for D flight and you have to finish in the top 5. I currently sit in 5th place with two tournaments to go. The guy in 6th is 10 points behind me and the guy in 4th is 10 points ahead of me. I'm so mad at myself because last weekend the guy in 4th didn't play and all I had to do was score 135 points to pass him. I scored 95 points while shooting the big 109. Not sure if any of you have ever heard of Mystic Hills in El Dorado Arkansas but its very nice and extremely hard. It showed me no mercy at all!

One cool thing did happen in El Dorado though. While we were sitting in the cart waiting to tee off a golf cart was headed towards us and I thought I recognized the driver. As he got closer I knew it was Scottie Pippen. We went to college together and I haven't seen him in person since. Dude doesn't look like he has aged a day and he can hit a golf ball. We talked for a few minutes and away I went to shoot my 109.
