Vegas Oct 4 - 7

My buddy and I are heading to Vegas from the 4th until the 7th of October this year, we were supposed to be going to play hockey but two injuries and a family emergency has left us with a new option of transitioning to a golf trip, no complaints here! However finding what courses to play in or near Vegas seem to be about as easy as finding a suggestion on what casino or hotel to stay in, everyone has their own opinion.

I'm looking for 2-3 courses within 90 minutes of the strip that you'd consider worth your time if you're from Michigan looking to play a little desert golf. A lot of the green fees are WAY out of my price range, I'm fine with paying up to $80 per round but I'm really not looking for $150+ green fees I'm sure those courses are great but that's too rich for my blood and I'm not a good enough player to justify that additional expense.

Thanks for the advice, I've never golfed in Vegas but looking to add that to my short list!

you need to check Overseed schedule...Oct is the worst time to play golf there. courses will either be closed or in overseed condition.

But the top courses to play is Paiute Wolf, Coyote Springs or maybe drive to Mesquite for Wolf Creek.

Next tier is the other Paiute courses, Rio Secco, TPC LV.

Ya overseed around that time will be a bit of a pain. If possible get out to Paiute. Great courses I would personally rank them Wolf, Snow, Sun but they are all awesome and will for sure give you the desert golf vibe you are looking for. I am assuming Reflection Bay is probably out of your price range and it definitely does not give off the desert golf vibe but a great course as well. Rio Secco and TPC LV are good options as well.

I appreciate the heads up on the overseeding, seems like most of them are scheduled for September but I'll keep my eyes peeled either way! I've found a few courses I'm considering, hoping for some input by someone who knows;

Mountain Falls, Primm Valley, Casablanca, Coyote Springs, Mojave Resort, Conestoga, Wolf Creek

Any must plays or that I should skip? Thinking a day out near Casablanca, Wolf Creek, Conestoga would pair well with the valley of fire one day, then a day could be spent in California and playing a round or two at Primm Valley, then the third day could go any which way and finish off the trip with a bang.

Thanks again for any input, it's always appreciated!

Replace Mojave resort with Laughlin Ranch, and replace Casblanca with Falcon Ridge and you'll be solid. Primm is fun and usually pretty open, both courses have some good holes. Mountain Falls is owned by the same company, and those 2 are usually the better shape courses. Conestoga is prob my favorite course in Mesquite, some real good thinking holes that you have to line up your shots well on. Coyote Springs doesn't overseed, so you're safe on that one. The rest do, so you'll have to check on em.

Yes; they may overseed in Sept...but the course will suck in Oct. Things like CPO, slow greens, wet conditions, etc. all while paying premium prices.

You have the best reccos with the posts that have been made. good luck.

Thanks a lot!

May be ignorant but I don't believe we over seed here in MI? I've heard of it but I've never been impacted by it, and had no idea how long after it was applied it would have an impact on the playing conditions. I appreciate your help, I'm going to make the most of it!

Really appreciate the advice! Looks like Laughlin Ranch on Sunday could be beautiful!

I'll be playing Laughlin again on Saturday, I'll let ya know! It's a beautiful course, lots of fun, and Everytime I've played it has been great shape. Mojave I've only played once, it was the opposite.

Overseeding here is usually a 5 week process. Course is closed for 3 weeks, then CPO for 2 weeks, then back to normal. Some courses have it down pat, and are good to go. Others, well, not so much. And they all know some courses close, so they all take turns jacking up prices for the limited availability. Paiute stays the same prices since they have 3 courses, only one closes at a time. Coyote stays the same prices, because it's a ways out, literally in the middle of nowhere, but it's worth every penny. If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to help!
