Your club championship format?

Our club's started today. 54 stroke play over two days. Used to play it as 36 holes day one and 18 on day two. This year is 27-27.

36 hole stroke play (medal play) over 2 days. Glad we don't do match play which I generally detest despite playing that format OK.

For quite a few years we've done a 16 player match play bracket, with seeding based on stroke play qualifying rounds. We do a separate 36 hole stroke play event earlier in the season.

Two days of 18 hole medal play ..... top 16 make Championship Flight match play Sat, Sun and Labor Day.

We have separate Match Play and Stroke Play Club Championships (36 holes), though the winner of the Match Play event is the generally considered "Club Champion" moreso than the Stroke Play winner (the Stroke Play event started decades after the Match Play).

Only 36 holes of stroke play. But there is a tournament within the club championship and that is to make the top 5 and qualify for the club's team because our local golf association has a tournament at the end of September called the Coal Scuttle that is basically a college event for every club in the area. Each course sends 5 guys and the top 4 scores count. You play two different courses (Previous year's 2nd place team's course first day, 1st place club's course second day) and there is a cut as well. It is the oldest and most prestigious event in our area and a majority of the people in our club championship are only playing to try and make the coal scuttle team, not win the event.

We do the same thing for ours. Top 4 are automatic qualifiers for what we call the River Cup. Its basically a Ryder Cup style event between our course and another course on the other side of the river. Remaining slots are filled from other qualifiers and captain picks.

Day 1 - 18 hole scratch medal. Top 24 go through to Day 2

Day 2 - 18 hole scratch medal combined with Day 1 score. Top 8 go through

Matchplay to decide the Club Champion. There is also a Scratch Plate champion after Day 2, who also gets their name on the board in the clubhouse.

I made it through to Day 2 after finishing +2 after Day 1, and ended up in 11th carding +11 Day 2 for combined +13. The score going through to matchplay was +8. I was a 7 handicap so was pretty pleased to even make it through to Day 2, matchplay would have been a bonus!

3 day stroke, 6 divisions

18 holes, no handicaps. Sudden death in case of a tie. Done by noon.

36 stroke play over two days. Four flights: Championship, first, second, and third.

36 hole qualifier. Top 15 or 16 depending if the defender is playing.

Then stroke play. Friday, Saturday and Sunday 36 hole final.

We have a stroke play championship also.

3 days of stroke play for the championship flight, 2 days for the other flights

18 hole stroke play qualifier then top 16 in 4 different flights go into match play that is played over 2 weekends. Winner of prior year's championship flight automatically seeded. We have also had less than 16 in the flights because of members not willing to commit to possible 2 full weekends of play. The number of slots might go down this year.

54 holes over three days and then our senior club championship is 36 holes over two days. You can compete in both.

These formats sound way better than my club’s. We only have 18 holes on each Fri-Sat.

My former club did exactly this...one thing they allowed was for guys to agree to play on a different day. Some would object (but generally it strongly) that it allowed different lengths of time between matches, but it was ok and led to less forfeited matches (as noted in your post about needing to play both weekend days for 2 weeks in a row)

36 holes stroke play. My club used to have match play after the stroke play but they dropped it few years ago. I love the match play though. I did win the club championship 2 weeks ago with 70-68.
