A friend and I had a tee booked at my club today. I'm expecting a typical friendly match with neither of us bothering about the score beyond personal interest. Out of the blue he suggests match play. At my own club. With a visitor.

Well I completed every hole as either a par or a bogey with one birdie. Don't think I actually broke my record of 80 but it was a good round. He conceded on the 14th.

Don't challenge me on my home turf, mate!

It is amazing how switching up the focus can either make you play really good golf or ruin a day

It certainly focused my mind. At one point on the front nine he was a hole ahead but I levelled up before the turn and then continued on my way while his game began to fall apart. I have a feeling that it might have been when I began to use my 3h. I don't get to use it much on the shorter front 9 but it's often called into action on the longer back.

By GolfWRX standards 190 yards is probably weak for a 3h but when it's arrow straight and playing against another amateur it has a way of sapping their will :)

Congrats on the win! I think having something on the line accentuates the focus.
