Hi folks.. my buddies from Australia are planning a Sottsdale trip next May.. planning on troon grayhawk tpc wekopa as a bucket list.. could add maybe 2 more any suggestions? then second week still deciding if we should go to tucson or vegas/mesquite.. we have played wolf creek and sand hollow in 2010 and loved it.. played tpc vegas and bears worst meh.. probably thinking pauite coyote springs and royal links vs tucson ..any suggestions?

Its a bucket list trip so best courses in best condition .. other than shadow creek coz I dont see my mates springing 500 for a hit

In may you may want to check out Show Low area. Torreon has 36 fantastic holes, and Silver Creek is close behind Torreon. Not much to do up there besides golf though. They do have a old casino but its not nice at all. I would stay at the condos at Torreon.

Got it. Living in Arizona, there really aren’t any “bucket” list courses I would fly across the world to play, but the ones mentioned are good and what I would recommend. A heads up, the NCAA golf championships are in May at Grayhawk so access may be limited.

You seem to have spent a lot of time in the US, have your buddies as well or is this a once a decade type golf trip? I know it is a reunion so is it always in the US? I ask as there are some great resorts (Bandon, etc) which are well worth it for the extra cost.

I get what you mean.. I live right near to mission hills in china and never play it and cant work out why people fly from all over the world too. This year we went to Hawaii and it was beautiful but courses are meh and way too expensive. I suggested Bandon but the boys arent keen on it so we voted on AZ

thanks for the heads up.. I live in china.. one guy is in Australia.. one guy was in china but just moved back to san diego and the last guy is in hawaii. weve been to china vietnam thailand hawaii and the US before.. I personally prefer the US as I think its better value and I just think people are much nicer

You think the people are nicer in the US than Vietnam or Thailand? Wow! I’ll take being part of the compliment but I’ve found the Vietnamese and Thais to be some of the absolute nicest and best hosts in the world.

I’d take a look at Cabo if I were you guys. Although if people think Bandon is expensive then it may not work.

FWIW, I've played all 11 of the regulation courses at the Mission Hills facilities near Shenzhen and I don’t think you’re missing much. I didn’t travel there for the golf but used to work there a bit and it was easy to get on when we were staying over the weekend. The most impressive thing Mission Hills is the sheer volume of caddies!

I recently traveled from AU to Scottsdale, and from the west coast.

Have to say it was one of the best places i've ever been... Definitely worth the 20 hour flight, courses are fantastic, great desert experience, service wayyyy better then Australia! People amazing couldn't help you enough...

Torreon is private in Show Low. You can get access to the courses by renting some of the cabins on site. Both courses and the high pine forest are worth the drive. Silvercreek is just fun. It wont be the best conditioned, high end course, but it is a blast to play. Great short risk reward holes. As noted hunting fishing and outdoor activities are all there is to do. No night life etc to speak of. If you have time, renting ATV's and heading to the higher mountains is always fun.

If you're looking for Night life then it doesn't get much better. Me personally I would stay at talking stick because I like to gamble. You may be looking at house rentals though so Old Town is a good place.
