May be moving soon to the Burgh.
Does anyone have opinions on affordable but challenging public golf there? Any courses you would recommend joining right out of the gate?

Quicksilver is my favorite public track.

Options abound for private. I wouldn't make that decision until you decide where you're living.

Completely not golf related, but dinner at Mallorca is a must. Their paella is killer.

I agree with all of this. If you're looking for a club, there are a few cheaper options in the area - depending on your age.
PM if you have any questions

I agree. not a lot of great public opinions. most people in the city are very friendly, but private golf is definitely the way to go depending on your age and location. PM with any questions.

Mallorca used to be great, but the food has gone WAY downhill the last couple of years. Their sangria is still killer though. As for golf, if you’re going to be living in the north hills, seriously consider joining Olde Stonewall. Probably the best track in western PA that you can actually get on (unless you have unlimited funds, and then by all means join Oakmont or Fox Chapel), and the membership deal is absolutely the best in the area. $4k/year with NO cart fees, assesments, or F&B minimums. It’s out of the way unless you live in Cranberry or further north, but it’s totally worth it.
