Sadly, Brian Barnes died today, Great Scottish golfer who beat Jack in singles twice in the one day at the Ryder Cup. Liked a drink and a laugh but he could play golf thats for sure.
He will be missed
Thanks for the heads up.....he was a pistol!
Sad news, he was a fine player back in the day. Had a drinking problem that he was able to overcome and have a good seniors career before his health dipped.
He will be missed.
Mr. Barnes may you RIP.
Very sad news to hear of the passing of a great man. I've known Brian since 1990, pretty much looked after his clubs ever since. Always popping in to have his Loft & Lies done. A few times he would bring his Father in Law, Max Faulkner with him. Was great to see Max hit a few balls in the net. RIP Brian, you will be missed.
RIP Big Fella
One of the great characters of the game. RIP.
I watched him play the day he beat Nicklaus. Twice.
Nicklaus did not look happy.
My memory of Brian Barnes is him hitting short shots while smoking a pipe. Must have been tough for Jack to watch that all day.
RIP, Mr. Barnes. This game needs more people like you.
Iirc read a story somewhere that Mr Barnes was playing in the French Open sponsored by Stella Artois and he used one of their beer bottles to mark his ball on his way to victory. Proper golfer!
I have posted this picture on several occasions. This time it's in reverence of a great golf character, and will be the last time I post it.
Not everyone call pull off the short shorts with the tall socks. Good on you, Brian.
May you RIP Mr. Barnes. One of the great all time characters of golf and a **** fine player that many people were unaware of until his passing.
