Club Builder in Madison, WI

Hey all, I'm looking for a club builder the Madison, Wisconsin area. I have used a local shop for a while but lately I am not overly impressed with the quality of the work. I even ended up recently shipping stuff to Continental Golf because I wanted to be sure it got done right. I would welcome the advice of anyone from the area. I am also open to hearing about trusted/reputable individuals in the area who are open working on another person's clubs. Feel free to PM with info you feel is best not posted in a public forum. Thank you very much for your advice and help.

Okay, I'm bumping my own thread once to see if there are any Madison people who can help me out. I sure would love to find a local option for club building...

Thanks for the idea. Looking at their site, it seems like they only build sets that they fit for someone. They won't work on provided clubs/shafts/etc.

I'm really looking for someone locally who can do the basics - regripping and uninstalling/installing shafts. If I can get loft/lie adjustments, that would be a bonus. I have used Nevada Bob's for years, but lately even these simple things are not getting done very well. A set of irons gripped with all different alignments, driver shaft adapters with terribly messy tip prep showing, and the like. I just can't imagine that there isn't anyone in the area who can do this basic stuff so I don't have to pay triple the normal rate to ship it to Continental Golf.

Well, maybe just give FORE golf a call and ask. He may not be so very busy fitting and building sets that he would turn away some cash flow for what you need. Just a thought. I hear you about NB. Golf shops aren't really set up with just one guy that does the work, many hands/cooks in the kitchen so to speak. :)

Good idea on giving him/them a call. I'll give it a try to see if he's willing to do some side work outside his fittings. I appreciate your input.

Would be interested in his response. There is also a guy in Cross Plains, Dean Archer. But, I'm not sure if he is retired or not. He worked on a set of clubs for me when I lived in the area.

Well, I never heard back from FORE Custom Golf. I'll update if I eventually hear something, but for now the quest continues. It is unfathomable to me that in a decent market like Madison, I can't find a business or individual to perform basic club building. If anyone sees this down the road, I will always appreciate any help in locating someone nearby to do this work. Thanks again, Redpro, for taking the time to reply and help out.

Dang! I'd be inclined to knock on his door and find out what's going on. I totally agree about the lack of club repair in Madison. It's a golf-mad community. Try Vitense and ask Jeff Kaiser. He's the Taylormade fitter there. Maybe some of the golf course assistant pro's know someone?

That's my next step. I've got a list of pros I know around here and I'll start calling around tomorrow. Jeff is a good resource for sure, but I may wait on him given that he works with the store where I have had the less-than-stellar work done. Thanks again for all your advice.
