Tipping Driver Shaft

I have a new uncut Project X Even Flow Black 6.0 75g shaft. I am going to install on a Ping G400 max 9 degree driver head. I am on the verge of an x stiff shaft but not quite. What would be a good length to tip the shaft so that it plays in between 6.0 and 6.5??

You will get close in feel, but not in terms of effects of flex.

I have a G400 and tip'd a 2kxv green stiff an inch. Felt closer to an X flex, but there is no substitute. I'm an in between-er like you, and I'm taking the tip'd S out and going X straight in.

I sort of went a different route. I fit into an x stiff HZRDUS smoke during a driver fitting. SS averages 105. I play stiff shafts in my irons so i’m in between X and Stiff as well. I recently picked up a brand new HZRDUS smoke 6.5 60g shaft, butt trimmed to play at 44.5” installed into a G400Max. I added 6 grams to the head without tip trimming and it plays perfect for me.

If we wanted to judge it by BUTT CPM, it takes 2/8" tip trim to gain 1 CPM so its 1.25" from 6.0 to 6.5, but this shafts is NOT designed like it was a carpet, where both had the same length, but one of them a starting point 1.25" longer out on the roll, so of we tip trimmed 1.25", the only one who would say its good to go was the CPM reader...feel can be compared, because the effect of "tip trim to feel of flex" is progressive.

The first 0.5" dont make much of a difference, while the next "a lot", so to make a shaft that feels in the middle of 6.0 and 6.5 it would be 4/8" to 6/8" of tip trim who makes it to play to "PX 6.2 - 6.3"....measured at the butt, and i guess thats your target. Tip trim above that, change feel way to much to the stronger side, even if measured flex at the butt still might be lower.
