Regripped my Driver today and noticed this at the butt end. One area had a strip of fibers completely removed but it’s not deep. It appears to be just on the surface. Probably a result of a bad cut by the manufacturer. Any worries here?

I have never seen a cut that bad before from a factory shaft.
    I wouldn’t worry about it.

It's not so much the butt cut that's concerning it's that longitudinal cut/crack. Something wrong there...

Have to agree that I had never seen an OEM shaft come out that way.
Put a thin layer of epoxy over the area next time when you have extra left over epoxy.

i never saw a shaft delivered like that either, but if the carbon fiber below is OK, and there is no return on that shaft, i would have tried to fix it by filling the crack with shaft epoxy. The shaft is made of carbon fiber and epoxy (resin) anyway, and the job for resin is keeping it all together and protect the carbon fiber.

Seems like its been cut with a saw for wood work, then its might look like that, its more than just the crack, its "bad" no matter how we look at it, but if you have played it without issues, its should be fine if you seal the crack with shaft epoxy just to make sure it does not develop into a splintered shaft butt.

Is that one of those artisanal shaft companies that cuts their shafts with an axe?

Agree with howard looks like whoever cut it used a toothed blade for wood instead of an abrasive disk

Most wood blades would do a much cleaner job than that. I regularly cut with 18/24 tpi band saw blades and they actually do a very good job (although the graphite dulls the blades and makes them useless for wood). Even an 8 or 10 tpi blade would do a much cleaner job than what happened to the OP's shaft. If I had to guess, I'd say It would take a very course - maybe a 1-2 tpi - table saw blade to do that kind of damage.

Looks like someone used a 14 tooth hacksaw blade on it . That's a new driver?

Tape it up good, so the the strips don't run all the way down to your shaft.. Should be ok..
Never seen it that bad before... Could also be bad bonding.

Now might be the time to make a clean cut as well on the end to cut off some of that mess...ever wanted to play a slightly shorter driver?

Just cut the grip off my week old M3 I just bought to put my usual midsize grip on and I basically have the same situation just not quite as drastic. I took pictures just in case of failure but it sure seems like a terrible cut job. Just tape it up and hope for the best is what I am going for. Only thing is the shaft is basically unsellable if you are like me buying and selling different shafts.

This what mine looked like. Sent an email to the retailer I bought from which then forwarded it to Taylormade customer service. Took about one day and a new shaft is on the way.

Could we count that as a handmade shaft?
