Granddaughter's Improvement

A while ago I posted about playing a round with one of my grandsons. He's 12 and athletic and hopefully will keep at it. Last month his 14 year old sister started high school and decided she wanted to join the girls golf team. I had a ladies set that I had gotten for my daughter and gave them to her. I had taken her to the range with her brother last year and she was pretty klutzy - clanking and shanking and she lost interest quickly so I was interested to see how this panned out.

My son said that she was frustrated at first and had some 9 hole scores in the 80's but that she was sticking to it. Last week he said the has knocked 30 strokes off her score and the coach said he was pretty excited about her progress. From literally no experience to shooting in the 50's in one month seems like a pretty big deal to me, but I'm coming from a grandpa's point of view. Here is her early swing and her swing from last week. Lots of room for improvement, but a pretty dramatic change already.

Keep it fun for her to golf.

You may have something there. A pretty dramatic improvement for her in a short time. Kids learn the game quickly because they have no preconceived idea, so don't pollute the young eager minds. Put her hands on the grip correctly and they'll figure out by doing it and watching the better golfers ( LPGA tournament on the TV is a good source ).

Most of all, monitor her progression with an eye out for injury. Stay healthy and perhaps by the next season you'll be receiving strokes from her.

She had a huge improvement in one month!

She learned about floppy hair real quick, nice to see it tied down now. She's also learned quite a bit, maybe on her own and just by my observation, how to create better leverage within a sequence for her advantage, but is a little overboard with it now, which is normal.

In time it should settle down while discovering different ball positions, different stances, etc. She has the skills and coordination but it will take time to percolate to the top with competent coaching sprinkled along the way. Enjoy her journey.
