For those that own more than one putter, how often do you change putters?

I have to admit, I have a half dozen putters. Obviously, since so many shots are made with the putter, I wanted to make sure I had the one that matched my stroke and resulted in the making the most putts. When Odyssey introduced the Stroke Lab One, I decided to try it because the technology made sense to me. Over the last few months, my putt stats have improved to the point where I seldom average more than 2.0 putts per hole. Seldom! I know that putting stats can be misleading because a lot depends on your proximity to the hole, but let me say that as a senior golfer and a very short hitter, I rely on my putting skills to salvage pars at least 4-6 times per round. I've tried some of my other putters when it seems the Stroke Lab One might not be working for me, but in the end, I always go back to the SLO. I've now become so confident with it, that even 20-25 foot putts seem possible if not probably. That's not to say I'm making these, but I still "feel" like I have a better than even chance.

So even thought I own a number of putters, Bettinardi, Scotty, Evnroll, etc., the SLO is my gamer and seldom, if ever, leaves the bag. How about you?

At one time i had 6 putters that i would rotate in and out depending on how well i was putting at the time. Most were chosen due to looks/style compared to actual results. As of today i'm down to 2, a large mallet (kombi-s) and my current gamer a blade (select newport). This is actually the first time since I started playing golf regularly that I've kept the same putter in my bag for the entire year. I think the consistency has forced me into working through my mistakes instead of abandoning my gamer at the time trying to chase a quick fix. I'll probably end up buying a second anser-style putter to keep with my spare/practice bag. I'd sell the kombi-s but i do like the 2012 us open headcover i have for it

To each their own. Some people will change their putters once a week, some will change their putters once a year, some will never change them. Although I'm highly critical to those who change drivers and irons all the time instead of getting lessons and working on their game, I don't blame those who change their putters frequently as it is a very personal thing, even at the game's highest levels.

I have 4 putters...(2) Machine M10 plumbers necks, (1) Machine M10 Flowneck & (1) Odyssey MXM Versa #9 and the Odyssey is firmly in the bag. I can proudly say that I putt the same with either of them (slightly better with the Flownecks), but the Odyssey is the gamer that won't leave the bag. The others aren'g going anywhere either, but they don't make it in the bag if theres anything on the line.

I have about 15-18

Change about one a month .. normal rotation is Piretti, Odyssey tour, Yes Donna, Scotty X7m. The valuable ones, though used, stay upstairs, in the closet

I've got a bunch but didn't change for a year after I bought my SC, recently built my own as an experiment, heavy headed face balanced blade with a flat lie angle. Rolled alright for a few rounds but then started to struggle with distance control I think due to the almost 400g head weight. So last time out I took my #7 just for a whim and putted decently with it. I like to tinker around and find something comfortable and confidence inspiring, so I'll likely end up with the scotty back in the bag. But I don't mind playing around and don't really care about score all that much. The #7 is solid inside 8 feet for me, but a bit quirky feeling on long putts.

Putters stay in the bag as long as they're playing well with the other clubs. When they misbehave, they get put into the timeout corner in the golf club room. Then, they have to watch as one of their putter friends gets to go out and play on Saturday while they are stuck with Mrs. Pelz, the washer and dryer. Believe me, that's not fun because on Sunday morning, I'm stuck with the washer and dryer.

It's funny that you say that, because I look at my line up of putters in the basement and I see dollars invested in something that has not produced results. However, at one point, I used every one of these as my gamer, but eventually, found something that worked better. The only thing that keeps me from getting rid of these is that I worry that I may need to switch at some point in the future...

I have a friend who's used the same approach with wives. Got a couple that he's gone around with more than once as well as some that were a weekend thing.

LOL... if I did that, it would mean the end of my putter collection!

Like a lot of folks here, I’ve owned a bunch of putters over the years. But after a fair bit of tinkering, I have firmly concluded that I putt best with a NP2 style. And all have the Scotty Pistolini (or very similar) grips. So have slowly been working through the collection and divesting / replacing as needed. While not as perfect as having one putter, the feel is very close and I still get to play around with a bunch of different models / makes.

I now have a Circle T, Oven MC1, Byron 612, Method 001, SC NP2 Select, TP Juno. The other shapes have gone or are on their way to BST soon...

I only have 5 putters, tho 2 only get any play. I usually start the season with my Tank Cruiser as it is more forgiving on mishits and like the ability to change weights as the greens aren't summer speeds. As the season rolls on, I usually switch to my Yes! Abbie Forged. Have had this putter for like 10-12 years now and just love it.

I collect putters (almost all Bettinardi) and so I have quite a few putters but I would say that I only consider maybe a dozen of them to be gamers. On the course, I usually stick with what is working and only occasionally change up the head style/type to see if it might improve what I might be struggling with at a given time (right now I have two different QB6s in my bag). At home, when I practice, though, I am constantly trying out different ones and different putting techniques - find it a lot of fun in addition to beneficial!

I've got a bunch of putters... but typically stick with my gamer Mil-Spec until it acts up for a few rounds... then I'll swap it out for something completely different i.e. Futura... but in the end I go back to the gamer

One thing that should have mentioned in my prior post is that, at least for me, swapping out my gamer now and then seems to “refresh” my putting stroke and particularly if I am having some issues, changing up the type of head seems to cleanse my stroke of the issues and then I will usually go back to my prior gamer. Some times it is good enough to roll other putters at home for a while but at other times it is better for me to play a round or two with something different.

As little as possible. Frequently switching isn’t good for me. I’ve used an Evnroll ER5 for 2 full seasons with multiple Byron’s sitting on the bench. I played a round with my new T22 when I got it and actually putted quite well. I still plan on riding out the ER5 unless my putting goes south for a long period of time.

I’ve tried everything out there. Putters are such a confidence club and so personal. I keep going back to my old Scotty my wife bought me out of the used rack years ago. I can’t say ive ever had putter I could roll better than any other. I’ve tried to switch it up and just always come back to that one. I quit looking and just started working on my stroke and feel. It’s helped more than anything.

I have a halve dozen or more in the basement that I practice with. Every time I think I am going to take one of them out to play, I end up back with my Rife. Would like to move on to a newer one but just can not find one any better than the one in my bag.

I have 4. 2 I've had for over 10 years and 2 recently acquired. They are all anser style heads, all are carbon steel. Headweights vary from 335 grams to 350 and since I play them all at 35" I utilize grips of varying weight to get a similar feel as far as swing weight. The major difference between them is they have varying offsets ranging from 0 offset to 1.5 shaft offset. Sometimes I just want a different look or will change to a different offset based on a recurring miss. Will also change sometimes based on green speeds. Bottom line is whenever I do acquire a new flatstick I know within a couple of practice sessions and a couple of rounds if I'm going to use it. While I've held onto a couple of putters for much too long for sentimental reasons, rarity, etc., I don't anymore. FWIW my 2 most recent acquisitions have made it successfully through the probationary period and are going nowhere. I would also agree with one of the previous posters that sometimes a putter just needs a timeout. In my experience putting prowess is just as much mental as it is mechanical, and anything I can do to influence the mojo I'm willing to try.

If I'm sinking putts or comfortable with a putter it will stay in the bag. If I'm off and just not confident I'll switch it out. This year alone I've used 7 different putters. It hasn't been a good year for me putting wise
