Edel Putter Fitting: has anyone done one?

Saw the guys on TXG do a putter fitting on Matt and I like what Edel is doing in terms of putter fitting. Has anyone gone through a putter fitting through Edel and seen some improvements in your flat stick game?

Sorry if a long read want to give detail.

I've had 2. The first was with an authorized Edel fitter who originally built my putter to me, he did a good job at building the putter, I feel very comfortable with it but he did make the entire set up very heavy with 225g of weight at the handle for counter balance. The reason for this is the surface I was fit on was extremely fast and this very heavy counter balance was correct for that green but looking back there would be no green this fast not even at major events. This lead to me to having serious speed control issues either being super short or blowing by the hole and the putter got shelved.

Then I saw Dave Edel himself was going to be at TXG and luckily I live in the same city, I booked an appointment and went to see him. Explained my situation and while chatting he asked for my putter so he could build one to match mine and right away he said it was too heavy and asked what my weighting was in the handle and it was 50g on my low hand, 75g at the top of the shaft and a 100g grip. We actually didn't fit on the putting surface you see TXG use as he said it was way too fast and if I wanted to get the speed control down we had to go to a slower surface. So we actually fit in one of the hitting bays, the only thing we had to get worked out was speed control so didn't need much. Dave put down a string like he often does and had me putt to it with my putter at first, and like I mentioned above I was short or long, Dave then gave me the putter he built, took out the 75g weight, left the 50g and I went back to putting.

After some putts the putting already felt much easier to control for me and my speed control was better. But then Dave asked if he could give me a suggestion and I wasn't going to say no. Based on how my hands naturally sit at my side, my right is neutral basically my palm faces my hip, my left which is my trail arm as I'm a lefty is pronated so my palm points behind me. This just means with a traditional grip because my hand wants to turn I pull my putts to the right so Dave told me I should be putting with the claw grip. I said ok, got into position and Dave gave me some tips and queues and I started putting and after a few putting putts to get a feeling for the claw again I got a feeling for it. Dave kept adjusting the weight location in the handle, after 15-20 more min of tinkering he felt like I had a setup that worked for me and I felt even more comfortable with it.

I don't have the putter in hand as I had to get the 75g weight removed and the 50g repositioned, I also had to get a new grip ordered so that just took some time. I should have it tomorrow and hopefully can get a round in with it before the weather is too nasty to play. But I have always felt comfortable with the putter and should be better now with the right weight setup.

I have done one. You end up with a really nice putter, but you have to decide whether the balance point is really for you. I struggled with the putter and eventually went back to a Newport 2.

And, unlike @MattM97, I couldn't spec an Edel heavy enough at my putter length (33"). (I play my Newport 2 with 20g weights.)

Also--this is a weird one--I missed being able to tamp down ball marks with the Edel, since it is largely hollow on the bottom.

This is the problem with the Edel I had. I play my putter at 31.5 and the Edel heads just aren't heavy enough. Also my torque balances putter was slightly open. Turns out they aren't all 100% vertical when checking toe hang.

I have to double check my torque balance but I believe mine points straight up.

My putter is also 36" so the head is technically heavy enough for the length but I like my putters heavy regardless.

I just got mine back and the weight adjustment feels great. I rolled maybe 6 putts on my carpet before I had to leave but it felt good.

I did one many years ago, before Edel purchased PiXL and used their insert technology. I thought it was a great experience and obviously bought one. A couple years later, I took my daughter to get fit and her putter came with the PiXL insert. The cool thing was that I sent my putter back to Edel and they added it in for me! The other cool thing (to me) was that after I got it back I was 2-3 yrs removed from my initial fitting, so I asked the same fitter to fit me again and my putter was spot on. My daughter and I still game them and it's great. Lastly, I would agree that the heads are a bit light and I've had to do a small bit of tinkering to get it to where the feel is the way I like it.

It's a great experience for the $100-150 bucks they charge if you don't buy one, and if you do, some portion of that goes back into the cost (can't remember how much).
