I need a longer golf ball!

I used to play the ProV1 and switched to the AVX earlier this year. It is a good ball but I'm getting old and losing distance. Driver club head speed is now 90 to 95 mph based on a different monitors. The course I play is unusually soft and extra spin isn't an advantage. Everything is all carry. Are there any balls that I might try that would give 10-15 more yards over the AVX, if I am not worried about green side spin?

Nevin...how old is "old" in this case? I'm in my 50s and am longer off the tee than I ever have been (playing for about 23 years now)...

What he is looking for doesn’t exist hence the reason for the alternative recommendations to reach his goal. All other things remaining equal, no ball will provide the kind of distance gain he is looking for over the ProV1 or AVX.

Like others mentioned you're not going to get any noticeable increase in distance by getting a different ball. You could try these ones https://www.diamondtour.com/felon-illegal-golf-balls-1-dozen.html , but watch the video from Rich Shiels when he tested another illegal ball -

and you'll see that they really don't help.

I'm a few years ahead of you - 68 with a 7 hdcp. I was as low as a 3.9 around 5 years ago and my drives were 10 yards longer (using GameGolf stats) but they just don't go as far as they used to. I also can't do as many pull ups, can't lift as much weight as I used to, and I stopped jogging due to creaky knees. Getting older is not for wimps.

You won't see that kind of difference in distance, depending on the balls put in play, unless you have a swing speed of at least 115mph. Check out these robotic ball test results done by Today's Golfer: https://tinyurl.com/y629xase

One thing that is interesting to note is that the softest ball tested, and perhaps as expected the one with the slowest ball speed, The Callaway ERC Soft, ranks very high in distance especially at 85 and 100mph swing speeds and is nowhere near the shortest even with 115mph swing speeds.

When I was 62 I was a 7. I'm 66 now and probably a 10.

I recommend moving up to the senior tees to maintain enjoyment of the game.

I usually get the same distance out of whatever ball I use as well, but I did try ( go ahead and laugh) Noodle Easy Distance balls and I seriously think they do fly further, maybe not with irons so much, but the driver was putting them out there for me. Same course, same day, same conditions when I gave them and a few others a test drive. I don't usually buy into gimmicks or bullshat, but for me I found the Noodle longer than most. Cheap enough to buy a dozen and try anyhow. Good Luck.

The Noodle is a solid cheap ball.

Maybe...

It depends on why you are losing distance. While swing speed is the predominant factor, the AVX could be launching too low, and even spinning too little. This would cost you significant distance.

The AVX is designed for people who overspin and hit the V1/V1x too high. This may not be you...

If you don’t have a towering ball flight, and want some spin, maybe demo a Tour BRX or RXS, the project a, or Q star tour. These are urethane covers and will have similar short game spin to the AVX (which is less than a ProV1 will add), but these balls launch higher than AVX and could give you more carry.

If you don’t need or care about urethane, try Tour Soft (Titleist), the regular Q-Star (Srixon) or a supersoft.

The supersoft launches very high and is a long ball especially for slow swingers.

"The AVX is designed for people who overspin and hit the V1/V1x too high. This may not be you..."

This here. I played the AVX for the first time this morning and it was NOTICEABLY lower launching than the ProV1 I was testing it against.. From fairway to green I was OK and able to hold greens, but off the tee I would sometimes lose total distance as the ball rolled thru our wet fairways.

I got measured and found a club head speed of 100 max but now I feel like 95 is about what I can count on when playing. Regardless of ball my carry distances were within a few yards of each other. To max out your carry distance find a ball that tends to launch higher. For me the Q star Tour launches higher if you like urethane and the e12 soft if you like surlyn. Check out the 2019 ball reviews that have data for the slower swing speeds and pick a few balls based on launch angle. I recently added 1/2 inch to my driver but it didn't help. I will try a different shaft this week.

Robot testing aside, you CAN pick up a few yards with a golf ball switch IF changing the launch angle and either adding or subtracting spin will help you. But only a few yards, at best...

I think I'd disagree with you a bit about playing on a soft course and NOT needing spin; it may well be that some additional spin and launch angle might help if carry distances are the most important thing for you. If you want more carry, then the AVX is probably not the best choice. But always with golf balls, it matters much more that you play the same ball than it does what ball that is.

But all of that pales in comparison to other things that you can do to deal with age, lower swing speeds, and loss of distance. The rank order of the things that you can do depends on your personal characteristics.

1. If you haven't done a driver fitting recently, find a really good fitter with Trackman and do that. Depending on how well your current driver fits you, I think 10 yards of gain from a really good fitting is highly achievable for senior golfers. (I'm one as well!)

2. Tweak your other equipment as well; fewer fairway woods and long irons and more hybrids are an example.

3. Consider lessons, no matter how good you are; getting technically better can add more yards than most golfers, even good ones typically understand.

4. If you don't already work regularly on flexibility and strength, get started. Those two things go together; strength THRU THE ENTIRE RANGE OF MOTION is just critical.

Each of those likely hold more promise for consistent distance gains off the tee and thru the bag for aging golfers than a ball change. The catch, of course, is that all cost money, and are much more complicated than changing balls.
