Matt Every Suspended After Testing Positive

According to the BBC. There is very little information but it looks as as he took cannabis for medical purposes, apparently this is legal in Florida where he lives.

If he has a medical card this is rediculous. If he doesn’t it’s silly.

Several other legal prescribed substances on the banned list. Beta blockers , certain steroids etc. it’s because of a perceived performance enhancement.

A legit medical card is not legit at all. Since the federal government said its illegal, states don’t have the ability to make it legal. Even if you have a MD give you the green light to use it, your place of employment can still test for it. Almost everyone that has a card knows that in their state they may be ok but you can still be fired or arrested for having it. Matt Every should have known that. I live in California, it’s legal on a recreational level and we still get drug tested.

^^^^ This.

He's not been charged or arrested - this isn't a legal matter, it's the Tour enforcing it's policy on banned substances. Cannabinoids are on the list.

There is a process for getting an exemption for therapeutic use. It would seem he didn't do that (or they denied him the exemption).

Here's the media guide for the Tour's anti-doping program.

This isn't a legal matter, it's a common sense matter. In a world where Brooks can pack a fat lip during a round, suspending a guy for having a pot brownie the night before an event is asinine.

I'm not surprised that the Tour is trapped in the 1950's.

I would say under WADA lot of legal things are banned also in other sports.

Considering past "incident" with Matt Every and his caddie regarding allegation of marijuana usage at a hotel during an event- I am shocked and appalled regarding these results?

I doubt you will see that happen - he has less friends on tour than Pat Reed.

DJ was suspended, by all accounts. You can’t really call him a journeyman.

I don’t understand some of you.

Forgot about it tbh but that was a time that he wasn't the star he is now. From all accounts DJ was apparently out of control w/ drugs and women back then.

Speaking up could be seen as support for using and could call into question those in support. Publically supporting ANY illegal activity can blow up in one's face.

One guy was suspended for high testosterone because he is on TRT (test replacement therapy) and rubbed the cream on as prescribed. When you take it, it peaks shortly after then falls (for the shots I take, it peaks about 24-48 hours after I inject). His levels were elevated because they caught it at a peak. Having low T is no joke, and it is absolutely absurd to think there’s any competitive advantage to taking test when yours is naturally low. It really doesn’t effect anything that has anything to do with golf, and seems the numbers are arbitrarily low as for cutoff for testing. A person dosing for advantage would have much higher numbers that a person on replacement therapy. My levels when I first got tested and when I don’t take it for a few weeks are right at or sometimes below 200. That is equivalent to an 85 year old, I’m 39. When I got tested 2 days after taking it I was at 1300ish. Normal range for my age is 700-900. I don’t know the cutoff for the WADA but I doubt I would pass and that is really pathetic.

Stallings took "over-the-counter hormone dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)", which is a far cry from "testosterone". And he got suspended for 3 months.

Opinions on that differ. I’d like to see it swing the other way. Ban tobacco use on tour too.

He takes Testosterone to get his T level to that of normal. Not to jack himself up. Huge difference. One is performance leveling in a sense on the grounds of being normal. The other is potentially performance enhancing.

I think I read he had low testosterone/hormone imbalance and a doctor told him his symptoms were because of that. He really changed his diet started to workout and took a prescribed as you said DHEA. Youre absolutely right, he wasnt hiding some secret illegal steroid stash. Big difference

Thanks for sharing! hope its better for you now. Ive spoken to people with that and its no fun, i legit worry about that for myself. one of my students in his 40s lost so much weight/muscle and couldnt sleep for 3-4 months before they figured out it was that. he stopped golfing and had zero energy 24/7. he got the cream and then shots and hes back to himself now. scary stuff
