Taylormade RBZ Soft - two questions

Hi.

I found myself in a sports shop yesterday needing to kill some time, so I ended up gently opening some golf ball sleeves to feel the ball's covers.

Two of the ball models I felt were the Taylormade RBZ Soft (had packaging with a lot of bright green) and Speed (had packaging with orange on it) golf balls.

For the Softs it's packaging said they were 3-piece and had a compression of 70. The Speeds were a 2-piece ball and had a compression of 82.

I had a look online and found different online shops selling various versions of the balls.

I saw shops online selling the Softs that were 3-piece and 70 compression, and with the bright green packaging and had bright green numbering on the ball - as described above. Then I saw shops selling the Softs stating they were a 2-piece ball with a 60 compression. This version had black numbering and came a dark grey and yellow box.

The Speeds with packaging and spec as already described above, and the Speeds as a 3-piece ball with a 70 compression.

I'm confused as it seems the Taylormade RBZ golf balls, both, Softs and Speeds have different specs and packaging but with the same name.

Can anyone explain this please?

Secondly, the Softs, the 3-piece model with 70 compression and green numbering - these felt nice in the hand. Is anyone able to share their experiences with this specific ball?

Thanks.

These are not part of TM primary line, the intent is to target the lowest price points which is why there is little attempt to avoid confusion or spend any marketing dollars on technology education (the target demographic isn’t going to understand nor care). These are likely derivatives of the Maxfli Fire line (3-piece = Tour Fire, 2-piece = Fire, both have the 342 dimple pattern). Regardless of the box graphics or name, the 3-piece balls are likely the same as are the 2-piece balls.

The only balls with these names on the USGA conforming list are 2-piece so the 3-piece versions you are seeing are likely NOS from a few years ago.

Primary line balls are produced by either Nassau(Korea) or Foremost(Taiwan) where as these other balls are produced somewhere in China so the name of the game with these is to reduce production cost as low as possible in order to hit those low price points.

Thanks @storm319

Now I'm at a PC I can provide you the links to the different packaging I've seen, so to help explain what I mean better.

**Taylormade RBZ Soft** (2-piece, 60 compression, black numbering, dark grey and yellow packaging) -- [LINK](https://www.thegolfshoponline.co.uk/taylormade/balls/taylormade-2019-rbz-golf-ball/?utm_source=pla&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=googleshopping&variant=346094&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIuobzl4G_5QIVybTtCh2Rmwv4EAQYBiABEgIY-vD_BwE "LINK")

**Taylormade Rocketballz Soft** (2-piece, 60 compression, black numbering, grey and yellow packaging) --[LINK](https://www.onlinegolf.co.uk/taylormade-rocketballz-soft-12-golf-balls-341062.html "LINK")

**Taylormade Rocketballz Speed** (3-piece, 70 compression, back numbering, orange packaging) -- [LINK](https://www.golfkingdom.com.au/product/taylormade-rocketballz-speed-3-dozen-golf-balls-orange// "LINK")

Do these links help provide any further clarification to my questions?

The ball in the first link (the top link) in this post is the ball, with the green numbering, that felt very good in my hand. I was able to dig my nail into the cover with ease. I actually wondered if it was urethane for a moment. It certainly didn't feel like a typical non-urethane ball.

Thanks.

3 piece good to know, many of us are still looking for a Gamer Soft replacement. They have an Orange ball too.

Be careful though... This is the whole point of my post... It seems that Taylormade have released two versions of the '**Taylormade RBZ Soft**' golf ball. One being a 2-piece and the other being 3-piece.

I'm seeing that there are two versions of this ball from the actual box (packaging), and not from some mis-information on an article - it's actually on the box itself.

I've never known a golf ball manufacturer to release a golf ball with the same name but in two different structures. This is very misleading and people could end up with people buying a ball they weren't expecting (i.e. 2-pc vs 3-pc, 60 compression vs 70 compression). This is the same story for the **Taylormade RBZ Speed** golf balls too.

I'm like a dog with a bone... in that I can't let it go :/

I'm now wondering if the different boxes I'm seeing online, showing the different compression and structures, are actually from different year models. For example, the 2018-2019 model is the 3-piece, 70 compression, and the 2015-2017 model is the 2-piece, 60 compression (or vice versa). There is just no logic in selling a ball, with the same name, at the same time, but them being totally different balls. You know, you like the 3-pc, 70 compression version and ask your Mrs to nip into a shop and get you some more. She returns with the Taylormade RBZ Soft balls, as you asked, but give you the 2-pc, 60 compression version - it's a very different structure and therefore ball.
